Hi All,

Just built up my new pc, it's running a P5Q mobo. Having a few dramas and I'm wondering if anyone else has this board and if they're having problems as well.

Thanks,

Spaced

It might help to know exactly what "dramas" you've had with the board.

Unless you'd like me to guess. Or use e-telepathy :P

e-telepathy sounds great but I prefer my privacy.

Issues are:

BSOD twice 0x0000007F and 0x00000024. One points to ram the other to the hard drive. Windows xp won't boot but could install vista fine and get my data off. Going to run seagate tools tonight and memtest to rule out hdd and ram. Other people on the asus forum have had similar issues but to a greater extent.

I was running the asus power saving feature which reduces cpu frequency when not under load and I have a feeling this could be the issue.

Colleague has been having issues with his P5Q-Pro. If he has 4 sticks of RAM in he has random application crashes and whatnot, but regardless of which two sticks or slots he uses it runs fine with only 2GB RAM. He's run memtest and whatnot with 2 sticks and 4 sticks in and has had no errors whatsoever.

Looks like the hard drive is at fault. Have to take that back tomorrow.

Hopefully the mobo is fine, hate pulling apart computers.

I have the P5Q-Pro and have had no probs at all. Apart from user error, I tried to run my old ddr2 ocz ram in it which is only 533mhz and the board requires minimum 667mhz to run. Put in 2 x 2gb corsair xms and all been great since.

no problems with my P5Q, it's a great board. I'm running my E8400 at 3.6G, and have all the SATA slots filled, 3x 320G HDD's in RAID_5, and 2x 500G HDD's in RAID_0, and DVD burner.

On the topic of the P5Q-Pro - can you have non-RAIDed hard disks on the 2x Sil5723 SATA ports, or do you have to run them in RAID?

With most boards I have seen you can. There may be a setting in the BIOS to set the SATA mode for those ports.

-Also with many RAID SATA slots you can skip the RAID BIOS menu after POST when you have plugged in the HDD/HDDs and just install the drivers for the RAID controller. If you don't stripe the drives in Windows, they should work normally as if plugged in under normal SATA ports.

For the record, I'm now running the new hard drive. System has been running COD4 and BF2 without any issues. Looks like the mobo isn't as bad as what people are saying on the asus website.

I'm using the Intel ICHR for both the RAID_5 and RAID_0 setups - you SHOULD be able use all the ports no hassles, whether you RAID them or not - that said, I've never tried with the orange and yellow ones. there's enough red ones to handle my 2x 500G, 3x 320G HDDs, and burner - just plug in a HDD and see what happens, I have no doubt it will work - they're just 2x 3.0Gb/s SATA ports that support "EZ Backup, and Super Speed functions', according to da manual.

Just an update. All games are playing fine except when I try to install airborne. Get an exit code of 0xc0000005 when I put the disk in the drive. Ran a memtest last night and one of the sections of my ram is faulty so I will be trying to take it back this week.

It was XPSP2 that had the issue. Reinstalled another version of xpsp2 and that fixed the crashing.

Apparently it copied my response and added some random urls.
