When testing overclocks on RAM & CPU, what programs do you recommend?

Is the all-round convenience of Orthos good enough, or does Prime95 & Memtest give you a more accurate clue as to how your overclocks went?

& are there other programs I should be looking at?

Orthos doesn't test quad cores.

The best thing IMO is Prime95 v256, which allows you to stress mem, CPU, both, and also uses 4 cores on quads.

I agree on Linpack. Linpack is a fugging bitch to run. Even the mightiest supercomputer clusters will beg for mercy on it...

(Systems specs:
Gigabyte 965P-DS3P, BIOS F4....I know I should update, but I know i'll stuff it up. Anyway, the rig should o/c the way it is.
C2D E6420
2GB DDR2 667 Kingston Value Select
8800GTS 320MB).

Forget it. I dedicated yesterday afternoon to overclocking CPU/RAM - my third attempt with this rig, which is meant to be a an o/c'ing stunner, but anything I do, even the slightest change comes back to bite me on the arse.

I'd done some testing with the o/c settings (FSB/MEM: 360Mhz) & all seemed to be good, until I ran UT3.....lost heaps of frames, so I toned the o'c settings down - still lost frames.

I then reverted back to defaults & just very mildly upped my RAM timings (4-4-4-12) - which the PC didn't like either.

Any worthwhile attempts at overclocking has never worked for me. Probably a lot of bad luck involved, but I just can't be bothered with it anymore.
