Yo peeps!

This weekend, Friday 8th to Sunday 10th, youngpro and I will be putting on a Team Australia Extreme Overclocking demonstration on the Thermaltake booth at the WCG Aus Finals held at Luna Park Sydney – details such as location, open times etc can be found here (note: entry is free so come along!): http://au.worldcybergames.com/t.php/WCG+Event+schedule%2C+playing+times%2C+tournament+details

It will be a good chance for the Sydney Atomicans to check out some extreme cooling, overclocking in general and some drool-worthy hardware.

We’ll be benching a variety of benchmarks and focusing mainly on the single threaded varieties such as Aquamark3, 3DMark05 and 3DMark01 to test out the legs on pro’s and my Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 and E8600 chips.

The hardware we’ll be using includes:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-Extreme
GIGABYTE GA-EP45T-Extreme
GIGABYTE GA-EX48T-DQ6
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 retail E0 Q820A599 (pro's)
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 ES E0 Q814A527 (mv's)
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 retail C0 Q740A497 (mv's - bought from dinos22, was the 6.1GHz chip: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=693968&highlight=e8500 )
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 retail C0 *code TBC* (pro's)
AMD HD4870 CrossFire
AMD HD4850 CrossFire
Kingston HyperX DDR3-1800 2GB (2x1GB) memory kit
Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10k rpm 2.5" drive
Thermaltake ToughPower 1500/1200W system PSU
Thermaltake ToughPower Express 650W GPU PSU

We've got some good chips to test this weekend. Most of the chips have already seen 6GHz or higher so lets hope the GPUs come good and we get some solid runs on the board.

To make sure we've got the temperatures taken care of, we’ve ordered a 175L tank of LN2 for us to use throughout the weekend ^__^

Not sure what to expect? Check out some of the pics from last year’s event:

We’re looking forward to the event and seeing some of the Sydney Atomicans drop by for a chat and a gander at the overclocking.

If by chance you’re coming specifically to see the overclocking, please note that pro won’t be getting into Sydney until late evening Friday. This means we’ll be holding off all big clocks until Saturday and Sunday so we have all hands on deck!

See you there! ^___^

what bios are you using for the 4870/4850's ? or are you just going to use like amd gputool?

I am assuming you are going to overclock them.

Why are you going for a more expensive underpowered card with the GTX260 though?

Says the guy with an amd cpu...

For this event, after a million trials and tribulations to deal with, absurdly high hurdles to jump over and super-nasty-not-so-nice rings of flaming death to jump through, we managed to pull off a demo.

If you haven't heard the whispers around the net in the OC scene, the reason why youngpro couldn't attend is because he was diagnosed with leukemia last Thursday.

Not only was this horribly shit news to hear but it also impacted on the event as half the hardware was in Adelaide with him.

None the less, after some scavenging, the event came together and the demo went on. While restricted to just 2D benching due to no GPU pots for LN2 and other restrictions, I played around with a new E8600 from Intel.

While it pushed on through to max out at 646MHz FSB on the P45T-Extreme and managed to snag 6.1GHz, the chip is a let down in comparison to youngpro's monster 6.25GHz SPi 32M stable chip and even T_M's slightly more average 6.11GHz SPi 32M chip.

All in all the show was a bit of fun albeit lots of effort organising!

Thanks to Thermaltake, GIGABYTE, Kingston and Western Digital for supporting the team and making the appearance possible and big shout out to my team mate and good friend youngpro - get well soon bud.

Photos will be posted tomorrow after they've been sorted and I've gotten some work done today.

Peace.
