Hey,
About to put togeather a Q6600 on a GA X48 DQ6 with custom H20 (Apogee GTX block).
Just wondering what OC I could hope to get out of it?

And out of interest how much better would a Q6700 be?

I can get to 3.6GHz on my Q6600 with air cooling (Tuniq Tower 120), so you'd be looking at 3.8 or so.

Closer to 4GHz with a Q6700 and watercooling though.

I was hitting 3.6 on air also with a Q6600, So i would expect at least 3.8 to 4.0 on a good wc setup.

On www.staticice.com.au, Q6700 start from around $300 while a cheap Q6600 is a bargain starting at $200.

3.6 to 3.8 sounds like plenty.
I already have the Q6600, unopened. Have read a some forums saying the Q6700 10x multiplier is better to work with.

Nevermind. Its just a matter of wacking it all togeather now and then the fun will start!

I've had three q6600.
All of them have topped out at 3.6Ghz for every day use. This is on water mind you.
On air you are going to have to run quite hot or quite loud at 3.6+Ghz.
Then again I am a quiet freak....

Be wary that the chips wont take high voltage very well for periods of time unlike there dual core cousins. Some people are noticing decreasing stability rather rapidly at higher frequencies like nesquick :P

EDIT: Im talking like 1.55+ or so volts.

mine's (G0) currently at 3.3Ghz at 1.43V. Spent the whole day fiddling with voltages, stressing, benching... tiring... but fun at the same time =)

I've read somewhere that the newer G0's need more v-core than the older ones... I don't know why though..?

Mine sits very happily on 400x8 with v-core set to 1.28750 in bios... My G0 has a 'pack date' of 10/11/2007 fwiw..

Yes this is a GO. I am yet to hook up the H2O.
The Gigabyte X48 DQ6 is beautiful! Its great to have a board with so many features after my asrock past.
I gather you fellas dont bother with the Gigabyte Easy Tune for OC? Just Bios?
And how does the Energy Saver work into it? Bios OCing

Well I did as suggested in the O'clocking forums and switched off all the Gigabyte PWR saving garbage and OCed from bios straight to 3Ghz and tightened up the ram timings.
It runs beautiful! A pleasure to have such an accommodating MB and CPU. And as for the 4870 in Crossfire!....

Will give it more when I H2O.

The Easy Tune6 was no help and crashed every time.
ATI Tray Tools is such a cool programme for monitoring but it doesn't seem to like Vista 64bit. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

My little Q6600 :) had it at 3.9ghz@ 50c 100% load not very stable 1.60vcore need to do Vdroop mod

Ps. problems with 4ghz is not temps, but you voltage, anything over 1.55 vcore is very bad for ur cpu. most people you see with 4ghz have low VID as low as 1.1125v i think most of us unlucky people who bought one recently have VID of 1.3xxv or sumthing cant remmeber now..
