Hi Everyone,

Considering overclocking my setup, with an aftermarket cooler how far would I be expect to be able to push an E8400 with OCZ 1066 ram and air cooling. What will be my first bottle neck, the ram on the cpu?

Thanks,

D

You could probably get up to and above 4.5GHz, with good air cooling. That RAM is good for overclocking those 45nm chips, since it can run at a higher frequency :)

I'd say that the CPU will eventually determine how high you can go.

Awesome thanks man. My house doesn't have aircon so I definitely won't push it as high as 4.5. Glad the ram is ok though.

By Air cooling he meant a good CPU cooler which uses air (not water cooling), not the actual cooler for the surrounding air :P

AC helps though.

Well dude you can't go wrong with a P5q, I got the Deluxe model and I'm hitting 500FSB on a 65nm without any tweaking.

Haha, yeah I know man was just saying the ambient temperature in my house will definitely affect the internal temperatures. If it's hot outside the case you can only cool it down so much.

No need to up the voltages?

Oh you will need to play with the voltages. Probably 1.35v would do it at that top level.

Auto made it, but typically
.02 over usual for all the voltages.
