Overclocking my Q6700....???

Well I'm sittin at 3.4 with idle temps around 37C. I Oc'd it for a MArk06 run, but now I've decided I'm going to leave it here 24/7 the temps are workable, and under load it never got above 55C. I just played Crysis for over an hour and pulled out and was happy to see my GPU and CPU both at 53C lol. Thats more than ok with me :)

Just downloaded Bioshock. will try it for a minute then go to bed.

Thanks for the info, but you guys didn't answer my question.. are you guys overclocking a different way than my when you go 8x400 or what not.. cuz all I do is change the fsb in BIOS. or is it all the same.

1.45 volts is a fuck load for such a small clock, many of the chips ive been seeing recently have been cracking 4ghz at around that.

There is only one way to overclock but many ways to improve performance :). Changing multi, changing ram subtimings, changing ram timings e.t.c.

Some boards perform better at certain frequencies. 3.4 should be doable on 1.35 ish volts easy. Hell 1.35v does 3.5 stable for me :)

Ya I was just noticing that.. my volts are set to 1.45 but in CPU-Z it shows when at 3.5 I'm only using 1.41.. not sure if thats what your talking about or not.. oh and my core voltage is turned up, but I've never messed with my fsb volts.. should i??
So I've been messing around today with my Overclocks. and I'm once again having problems with getting Prime to run without errors.. I have been at 3.0 stable, and 3.33 stable. but like i said. 3.2 gets errors all day, no matter what I do.. then 3.4 was working great and I wouldn't get errors on that. last night I went to 3.55 and did some Mark06 just for fun. tonight I went to 3.625 GHz but anything past 3.4 GHz I get errors on Prime.

So, my question is how do I get rid of the FATAL ERROR Rounding was 0.5 when expected 0.4 or less.. I'm sure I've asked this before.
I get no errors in 3.4 but in 3.5 and 3.6 I get these rounding errors. and at 3.6 I was getting that error on 2 cores instead of one. so tell me this. if I'm using To many Volts.. like you said. that 1.45 was to much for such a small clock. could that be causing the rounding errors??? should I go down to 1.35.
Right now I'm at 3.5 GHz and my voltage is at 1.40 and I'm pretty sure if I tried I'd get that rounding error. I've still to this day since building this rig never ran Memtest.. I wonder if that could be it. considering this ram i bought doesn't run at the "advertised" speed.. and my last question. Is it ok to run my computer at this speed even if not Prime stable.. as in at 3.5 my temps are good.. under 38C idle.. and games and benchies all run fine.. but Prime fails.. is it ok to run it until i figure out whats causing the errors.. or should I only run it where I know it would pass. like 3.33 GHz. ??? Let me kno. I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks again. I'm still learnin this OC'n thing. figuring more and more each day.

Just read tantryls thread. CBF answering some of the questions you asked cause there readily available in anyone of the thousands threads we already have.

Decreasing volts wont fix the issue. Why would it? You need to increase volts as you go higher to higher clocks.

Type up your posts properly please its an extra letter to make kno, 'know'. Not that hard, single full stops not ... Drives me fuckn batty.

The reason for certains speeds failing im guessing (from the lack of settings posted) is that your boards still set to auto and isnt changing your memory divider soon enough.

Sorry, I try to make everything smaller. I say "tomorro" even tho I have spell check on Firefox3 telling me it's wrong. My bad, I'll work on that. And I know that increase is needed when you go higher, you just said that 1.45 was really really high for my clock. so thats why I suggested a lower clock. I'd really like to get my board at a good OC, and to pass the test. Why would it pass at 3.33 GHz, but then fail with the same rounding error at 3.2 doesn't make much sense.

So whats this. you're saying that your guess is that the board is still set to Auto, and that it's not changing the Memory. you mean the Memory being Linked or whatever. I have it set to Unlinked. and I also have the Memory Not set to Auto, it's unlinked. and set to custom so I can change it to whatever I want. Is that what you mean. or you mean something else? Please let me know ASAP, I'd really like to get this figured out.

Thanks!

p.s. Where is Tantryls thread.?

Read those and then when your done read again. Then ask questions. We arnt a walking FAQ.

Unlinked? sounds Nvidia crap to me. Theres either a massive cock up with nvidias straps on there north bridge, or the RAM speed is to high. Change the RAM to a different divider and if you dont know what that is google it.

I know the basics to Overclocking.. I just don't know why It's completely stable at 3.1 and 3.33 but not at 3.2

I've read those. it's ok tho PC FREAK..

It could just be your CPU chip and the dye of the cores are different and not as good as the others.
All cpus are made differently and have better/worse ability to overclock. You could have 2 of the exact same cpus with different results.
Overclocking is forever a fiddly ordeal so your best bet is just stick to a stable speed that doesnt get to hot. Remember we are in the middle of winter and when summer comes along your chip will be running alot hotter.

Well I'm actually in the states.. so right now it's really hot. about 107 Degree's F on the average Day.. so my temps are pretty good for the moment. I'm not having a problem with heat. not at all. My temps are fine. I'm at 3.66 GHz right now with idle temp of 37 C. Perfectly fine. I just ran a game, Tryed Crysis, and GRID. and 3DMark Vantage and everything works just fine. Yet for some reason I still can't manage to pass Prime95. within seconds I get rounding errors still. Very irritating. So tell me, If I can do everything Perfectly fine with no freezing or shutdowns. and it works completely Fine, yet I can't pass Prime. Should I not be at this speed. Is it ok to run, or should I go back to something less like 3.33 GHz when I passed Prime.?

The reason that the games don't crash is because they don't stress the CPU much.

If you want to make it stable, add the smallest increments of voltage you can to the CPU, until it passes.

well I'm at 1.4 right now. I could try 1.5 and see if that passes. but thats pretty high. but temps are still great.. 38 or 39 C Idle. and 55C max or so

I'm back to 3.4 GHz that runs fine at 1.35 and I can pass prime for a long time. but anything over that I start failing. so i think I'm going to be happy with 3.4 for now. Oh and I got that to pass by going to a 9x multi instead of the 10 like Nesquick said.. now my divider is 1:1

OK, so I figured i'd give an update. so I slowly added more and more vcore until I started passing prime at 3.5 GHz I now am at 1.4625 in BIOS and I'm able to run Prime for over 3 hours with no errors. :)

ya ya, but, now with it that high, temps are ok, but still I fail. I can run at 3.5 GHz in prime but I still get a error for rounding on the same last core. but now instead of in seconds. I get it after over 3 hours of Prime. So whats this. does that mean I'm getting closer. or I'm almost stable. should I go to 1.4875 or something. or is 3 hours enough and call it close.

Also, I have one question, Frunj, Nesquick. you all told me to disable speedstep when i first started the OC stuff. So I did. but I never disabled C1E.. lol laugh all you want. but I never did. so I was always having to move around or get my pc going so it would show my clock in CPU-Z, then I'd take my screeny. lol.

So, I finally tonight turned OFF C1E and now I'm running completely consistently at 3.5 GHz. I'm runnin prime again to see how it goes. But my question is this, is there a chance at all possible that the C1E was what was causing me to Fail Prime? would it glitch for a second and fail. or does that not matter? is that an idea? Let me know what you all think. also should I leave that disabled?

so nes, you can pass OCCT for one hour at 3.8 Ghz without going over 70c on your Q6700. hey what did you do with ur old p35? does it work

Tell me, whats your VID. and what are your settings for the vcore, fsb voltage, and NB?

So I was thinkin, is it possible that my shitty RAM is the reason, even tho my RAM passes memtest. Oh and I failed OCCT within 3 minutes. 3 times in a row. all Code 1. to bad no one on the PLANET knows what code 1 is. thats my only wish, is these programs told you what the errors were, but I guess there's to many things that could go wrong.
