Ahh I guess the X48 has reached its limit. Get a P45 :D If you have the monies...

Then you can get 500 x 8.5 which is 4.25GHz I think.

:D~~~
Was thinking that initially but after reading about crossfire on P45 vs X48 boards I thought I'd be better off. Besides I was hoping for a 470FSB :(

Yeah, I'll do some more testing but if I can't get the magical 4GHz I'll go a P45 and go the 4870X2 route.

Imagine that, 500FSB on air. And the fact you might get the 4870X2 means it's probably 30k 3DMark06 in the bag :D

I'm using water cooling for the CPU :)
My current setup pulls ~19k in 3DMark06 with CPU @ 3.6GHz and before OCing the gfx cards. I highly doubt 4870X2 will help get much more than 21-22K with everything maxed/tweaked.

It's definitely fsb wall. Lowered multi an I couldn't even get it up to 460MHz again. Froze at 455MHz :
http://mark.zoomcities.com/images/superpi/Super%20Pi%20C2Q%20Q9550%20@%203.xGHz%20low%20multi%201
That was with 1.4v on the CPU, +0.35 on the fsb and +0.25 on mch. Oddly the system is highly unstable when I put mch at +0.3 or more. Gets into Vista and blue screens every time.

So yeah, I think I'll get a P45, sell my board and one gpu and buy the 4870X2 when it comes.

keep the 4870 for a while to try tri crossfire
looks like your cpu is a fair bit better than mine as it seems to take less v to reach 3.8ghz
i needed it set to 1.525v (cpu-z=~1.45v) to prime at 3.9ghz and the extra .5 multi is nice to

P45 is brilliant imo.

I had 65nm E6600 at 4GHz, it would be very stable after more tweaking.

Cant wait to slap the 9450 in

I would definately be interested if you decide to sell 1 card :)

@dasa - I'll still have at least one 4870 when I get it, so I definitely will try it :) Those benches btw aren't prime stable by any means. Just quickly testing 4 instances of prime (using the in-place large FFTs option) it isn't even stable at 3.4GHz with 1.5 vcore. I'll wait until my p45 board comes before doing much more. Hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow, if not Monday.

@morgoth - Nice! When's the 9450 coming?

@nesquick - check ur PMs

Not even stable at 3.4GHz with 1.5v? That's a pretty stingy chip. I can do 3.4GHz on 1.25v but due to motherboard being lame it often BSOD's. So I just run 3.2GHz atm on stock vCore.

Can't wait for my new P45 :D

LOL for a motherboard THAT expensive to do THAT poorly... makes it seem as if you wasted money... if your into overclocking that is.

I can run a single instance of prime ok at least at 3.6GHz (haven't tried 2-3 instances), and can complete runs of 3dmark06 at 3.6GHz ok. Just 4 instances of prime95 (using the middle option. static FFTs or whatever) gives it the wobblies.

Hey tech-kid, what cooling temperatures are you getting with your TT Big Typhoon at the moment from your overclock?

Currently with a 3.2GHz on stock volts (and yes fully stable), core 1 is 32, core 2 is 32, core 3 is 20 and core 4 is 23.

Big 12 degree difference from coolest to hottest but is still cool :D

The TT Big Typhoon is awesome. At 3.2GHz it doesn't pass 50c on load. Totally recommend it to those who just want something quick and easy. Only $63 too.

Oh I have one as well XD

I was just wondering what type of heat output is from the new 45nm at high overclocks

The U12 costs $79. But that thing pwns the Big Typhoon VX. You guys seen the Big Typhoon VP yet? It's nuts.
