overclocking: voltage on auto?

Is using Auto settings (in bios) for the CPU voltage good enough? Or should I try fiddling around to to specific value.

I'm not entirely sure if my overclocks are working for me. The temps are definitely fine after getting my Noctua cooler... but my computer has difficulty starting up once I put it to sleep or shut it down.

At 3GHz you should set it to 1.3v so that it's there and set. Auto normally overvolts because it's 'cautious' but 1.3 will be more than enough :-)

Yeah BIOS tends to overvolt if you set the voltages to auto. Do as FB said above.

I'm trying to get the CPY to stay around temps of 40-50 on load, which seems to be around 3.2Ghz. Haven't tried 3.6 yet, since even at 3.2 the system doesn't seem to be particularly stable.

But i'll try upwards of 1.3 and see what I can get away with

Feel free to go past 1.3v, just don't pass 1.5v and you're fine.

I would stay below 1.4V, as long as your temps are fine you should be right, but don't use Auto whatever you do, auto anything is the worst way to overlock!

Nah, 1.4V is safe. 1.5V isn't. Somewhere like 1.43V is good till 3.5ish GHZ

Sounds like the OP has stock cooling. No way in hell is 1.5v safe with that, if you had high end air cooling or H20 then MAYBE, but quad core maybe not even. 1.425 is about as high as I would run it day to day, but that's still on good cooling. TBH I wouldn't run it past 1.35v on stock cooling. Those quads are damn hot.

Not using stock anymore. Just got myself a Noctua cooler over the weekend. Just haven't updated my sig with it.

I am able to run 3.4GHz on 1.35v, and I run 3.2GHz daily on that same voltage. Temps are good, you'll notice that has you start getting higher and higher, the voltage per clock increase, increases. So basically you'll only need to rise it a little at the beginning, but a lot later on just for a couple more MHz.
