Complete specs of your system would help.

I've got the same CPU and was never able to OC it all that much. It's running stock now, and I haven't had a go at it for a while, but from what I remember I only got it up to about 2.65GHz before I had to raise the volts a ridiculous amount to keep it stable. Mine's on an Asus M2N32-Deluxe and it wasn't even stable using the Asus 10% auto overclocking feature.

I'm interested to hear how you go with it though. Maybe it's time I had another crack at it.

Which core and what stepping? I've just ordered an X2 4600+ (Brisbane core, G2 stepping) and a GA-MA78GM-S2H and am wondering how it will go.

Mine's a Windsor core, but I've got no clue as to the stepping. I can have a look when I get home if you'd like. :)

I'd like to hear how you go with the Brisbane core too.

I just got the parts, and have put it together and got XP up and running. However due to too many classes, I've not had a chance to try anything out. I'll get back with impressions if I get a chance to play around.

Nice! That's what I like to hear. My next planned purchase is an HD3870 when I've saved up for it. (Or whatever is occupying that price point when I've got the money...)

It really wont play crysis at max... :P
Anyway There was a thread a while back about me overclocking an am2
see http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=27&t=333&h=
Now with the original bios (all thew way up to the 6th revision iirc) I could only ever overclock 200mhz no matter what. With the latest bios and a bit of tweaking I got 500mhz so my advice would be to update your bios and if temps allow dont be afraid to put a bit more juice in to it.

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Brisbane 4600+ G2 stepping,
it resides inside a MSI K9A2GM-F V3 mainboard and with
just bios adjustments to the fsb the CPU is mad stable
@ 3.0GHz a .05v increase to my ram got it to 667MHz from 533.
Passes two different 12 hour stress testers one in AMD Overdrive
the other in sandra without a single hiccup. If your board is
decent there is no reason the cpu won't get to at least 2.8GHz per
core, rock stable. As far as I can tell the Brisbane and Windsor core
only have one major difference, the fab process Windsor using 90nm
and the Brisbane using 65nm. Both 200MHZ fsb 12x multiplier 2.4GHz
spec.

Hope this helps,
Ben
