Monitor - Refusing Native Resolution

I just bought a Samsung 2493HM monitor to replace my Samsung 226bw.

I cant get it to its native resoltuion of 1920 x 1200.
When I try to set it to that resoltion, it goes all the way down to 800x640.

At first, I disconnected the DVI & power cable from the 226bw and connected the new monitor to those same cables because the DVI is the same and the power cable also looked identical. No harm using the older power cable, especially sinced its encased in a cable-management thingy.

Any way, there was no screen, so I restarted the computer and saw the BIOS screen and the Windows XP loading screen, but nothing after that. I have my LCD TV hooked up to my graphics card too (2 DVI slots), so I guessed I needed to install the drivers. But popping in the Samsung Drivers CD gave me nothing. It would not show up. I thought the CD was busted so I popped it into my laptop, but it worked! So I downloaded the drivers from samsung.com and selected the 2493HM Digital drivers and installed, then playing around in Nvidia control panel, I got the monitor to work, but not on its native resoltion. The highest I can get it to is 1920 x 1080, coincidentally its a full HD monitor.

Any idea why their driver CD wont work and why I cant get it to its native resolution?

Thanks

thats really strange. only thing i can think of is to update your graphics card driver. failing that i dont know. maybe a motherboard bios update will do it...

try changing the monitors driver to "generic PnP monitor" but im usre thats not goin to do anything.

if worst comes to worst, then you may have to RMA it. or set the monitor so that it leaves the image at its actual aspect ration and live with the black bars top and bottom.

also, try updating to SP3, it MAY do something, highly unlikely tho.

Ya thats really strange. I'm having a simlar but different problems. I still have my 226BW, and love it. but I just got a second 22. i got the Samsung 2253BW. put it next to it. but now ALL the games that used to load in fullscreen on the 226BW, are opening with Bars on the sides on my 2253BW. they are both on native res. so why would one monitor show FS, and one not. No sense. it's like maybe the 2253 is not scaling or some crap.

So bioshock, Crysis, HL:2, and GRID all opened with Black bars on the sides. I had to manually change the resolution in the games. but the 226BW I never had to change those. I can get to and use native. but thats the only setting that will be Fullscreen. I know I shouldn't be playing games in anything other than native. but Crysis I like to play at the size below it 1380x768, or maybe it was 820. lol either way that setting was Fullscreen on my 226BW. but now it's not on the 2253BW. only the actual Native. Not sure what thats about. I tried a Driver update 3 times with no luck. I never installed anything from the samsung disk. that could be it. Idk

Yours is completely different to the OP.
You've got 1:1 scaling turned on, try turning it off.

I have a 22" ChiMei 221D capable of 1680x1050@60Hz.

Occasionally the Plug 'n Play doesn't work properly on boot and the system boots to either 600*480 on the Ubuntu partition or on the Vista partition I just get a black screen and need to boot to safe mode to get any picture at all.

As the problem occurs simultaneously on both Linux and Vista partitions I know it's a hardware issue in my case.

The solution for me is to UNPLUG the monitor and push the power button several times to drain all the capacitors then re-connect and re-boot. Usually that'll sort things out and I'll get the native resolution.

Edit: BTW No problems on an analogue cable however. The only issue there is the crap picture on an analogue cable compared to DVI.

Have you tried it on another computer?
It sounds like a software problem. Try driver sweeping your computer for nvidia drivers and reinstalling the latest.
