$1700 in hand. Which TV?

Tonight, I'll be heading into the fray to buy a telly. I have a huge stack of $50s in my pocket, burning a nasty hole.

I'm struggling to decide between the 32" Bravia with a free PS3, or something bigger (maybe even in 720p), and build a HTPC somewhere later down the track.

So, suggestions?

A Little more expensive ($1,990.00), but 40" - comes with a bluray player:

37" - $1,585.00

This web site pretty much has the best prices of anywhere, I've bought from them before, recommended. http://shop.gameon.net.au/c/148617/1/lcd-tv.html

This is where I am heading in a couple of months, check this 42" out for $1,449.00. And for two hundred more you can buy a full 5 year warranty.

Of course for $1,799.00 you can get this 47"

There is no way in hell I would buy a Kogan.

Keeping in mind that the Bravia comes with a $600-ish PS3...

I don't want to spend $1700 on a 1080p telly to watch DVDs on. :P

Can you tell me why as I am going to buy one myself they use LG panels, and can sell cheap by keeping over heads down. IE: straight from manufacturer to him to you.

So please tell me what is wrong with them before I part with my money.

Yes but the sony has a smaller screen (32" compared to the 42" or 47" I posted). To my way of thinking you would be better off getting the biggest screen you can afford now, and add a PS3 later.

BIG screen aaaahhhhhh ;)

We have a pretty small living room, it doesn't really warrant a massive screen.

PS3 offer is over. :(

Guess my choices are a little more open now :)

JB has a 37" Panasonic Viera for $1996... Wonder if I can get them down to $1700 if I pay cash?

Just called up work to find the cost on it, $1399. You've got to give them at least 10% on top of that, so realistically you could talk them down pretty easily to $1600 if you said somewhere else was doing it cheaper ;)

Thanks for all your advice guys.

In the end, I decided to jettison my requirement for 1080p, and settle on 1080i. This opened up a bunch of options in my price range.

I've ended up with the Samsung LA40A450C1D, 40" 1080i.

Looks fantastic, and only set me back $1320.

The extra cash was spent on a surge protector with attached equipment warranty, and a bunch of DVDs.

Blu-ray can wait. Thanks again for your suggestions dudes/dudettes!

I'll be honest, I was a little hesitant over the phone to the guy I was talking to when he said that price, but he was sure it was the 37" 800A so...?
