Here is the link from creative's own discussion board:
http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=43543&
Thank God I read about all this first!
You will find 30pages on the problems asociated with these sound cards that went on for over a year!

Even if creative has now done anything, I want nothing to do with them. I have now vowed to ban them for another 5 years.

Tough Luck Creative......You have lost a lot of custermers over this.......Asus is set to rival creative over thier upcomming PCI exspress cards....If you can wait review and research them or just go another brand. Creative dont deserve your purchase and dont rip yourself off by doing so!

Thougt I would do a quick edit after doing some researching. If you want to avoid all the creative BUGS you will find the following card is well and truly up to the task.
http://www.mediacentral.com.au/auzentech-xplosion-connect-p-124.html

It's the Auzentech HDA X-Plosion 7.1 DTS Connect. Mabey not quite as good in gamming as Creative, but it's still high end and it will WORK!!!!!!

As far as Movies and multimedia goes, its Better! If you check the specs close enough you will find it has more than some X-fi cards.

Hope it helps those looking for an alternative High End solution like me.

Also, if you're into making music/being an audiophile, creative doesn't really cut it IMO. Get something less gamer-oriented.

thats great devoid, I wish more people could vouch for it. After reading up at creatives forums on the issue I just dont think the beta version they have is enough at this stage. Many people also report problems as soon as overclocking. I wish it was not the case, I love everything these cards boast, but just think its to risky at this stage. The fact that creative did nothing during that whole time does not say much for them.

I hope you continue to get awsome sound
Cheers

Im another happy X-Fi user like Devoid. I have the X-Fi Music. Going from Soundblaster live to onboard to X-FI I don't know how i put up with the onboard sound. It just sounds like complete shit compared to X-Fi.
Ive been a lucky one also with no probs

I reckon it must have been some sort of licencing problem.

yeh, I reckon that they had enough consumer support to keep SoundStorm happening, it seemed strange that they suddenly dropped it.

I use a XFI Xtreme music and also an Audigy 4 no probs i reckon it's more the user that causes the probs, i've never had an issue with any Creative sound card yet ans i've been using them for years :)

Lol it's not the first time creative have had problems with their products. My original audigy used to suddenly decide not to work on a regular basis, requiring me to pull it out and reinstall it in another PCI slot every few months. That said I had no problems with my Audigy 2 ZS, performed without a problem for 2 years straight. At the moment am undecided if I should go for an X-Fi, audigy 4 or audigy 2 zs when I get fed up with onboard on my new computer.

I don't and won't buy a creative product.

I have an HDA X-Plosion, which does not have EAX4 BUT does have a Realtime DTS and Dolby-Digital Encoder resulting in true 5.1 from any surround source on my Z-5500's via Optical.

It also features user replacable OP-AMPS - and had vista drivers long before the creative did, also the vista drivers provide all the functionality that the XP ones did - something which Creative find hard to grasp.

I was more upset over how creative have taken so long to take steps to fix the problems consumers were having. I feel I may have been to outward in my feelings on this as a newer member here but yea, I guess we deserve the right to get pissed off accasionaly:)

Now that I have finished kissing ass, I have to ask "Inside V2", How did you go installing that sound card on Linux & what version you using?

I have an XtremeMusic although I waited for the second revision (with the heatsink) after following progress on the Creative forums. I've not had any problems with it so far BUT I'm disappointedly with the official driver... I use the digital output to connect to my Yamaha TSS-1 5.1 amp/speaker setup and the 30 Oct '06 release resets the FlexiJack to "Mic-In / Line-In" on reboot (although the FlexiJack option is still shows "Digital I/O" when you check). Creative know of this problem and have ignored the user requests to fix it I assume because they were putting their effort into a Vista driver. Luckily, somebody in the community wrote a very small application (641 bytes) called "fixdigout" that you just stick in the startup folder. Here's the download link - http://www.timetiger.com/gene/bluevoice/fixdigout.exe if this of any help to others sick of having to reset their FlexiJack setting every time they boot.

My Boxen is running Debian Sarge, and the card is supported by the C-Media PCI Audio driver in ALSA and the kernel, however the DD and DTS encoder currently does not work under linux but everything else does, so i have 5.1 analogue but my optical only does 2.0 just lke all the generic machines on the market.

Thankfully it's a card for gaming which is done under Vista :P

Battlefield 2 in 5.1 over optical is GLORIOUS

Linux are pretty good with drivers. I'll asume it wont be too long before they fix this as I am very impressed with the way Linux runs multimedia. Infact I am impressed at the way Linux runs everything.

I'll only be keep windows for games only, & giving the newer Ubuntu versions a crack...I know that Ubuntu might not be as solid as other names, but I was impresed as a learner with it.

Anyways nice to see some Linux people about :)

my audigy 2 is a good card but the drivers are shit if they decide to spit the dummy your most likely looking at a format to get it working right again and it sounds like things are just getting worse

This thread has alarmed me so I went reading the source thread on creative forum. There is actually loads of different fixes if you need them like revert to default settings or enable PCI DELAY TRANSACTION is bios...

I am always careful when seeing threads started with BUY or DON'T BUY followed by more or less apparent recommendation of a piece of hardware.

I have used X-Fi Fatal1ty for over a year now, no problems under XP. Switched to Vista and expected hiccups but it is all good and stable with the latest drivers.

Hope to see some Linux drivers for X-Fi myself to make this another switch, too ;)

Yeah, I'm fed up with Creative. I like my Bluegears b-Enspirer; all the cards coming out with the cmi8788 chipset are nice.
