Sounds like a total gimmick for $25.. especially if it's doing the dac conversion, not to mention the 20c amps they would use in the headphone socket.

In short buy it if you want cool lights but don't touch that shit for sound quality, tubes get hot(if that’s even real, they don’t even mention the type), and that fucker looks huge, they are also fragile, and as an older technology they consume way more power than solid-state counterparts.. I wouldn’t want to be taking anything tube lanning..

Yes.

It's only a headphone amp, isn't it?
I've got my doubts whether they really put the audio through the tube anyway.
I think it's just there for show. (although the THD looks about right....)

Interesting, looks like it is just a buffer of sorts, though I have my doubts like the other guys.

But for $25 it might be worth a play.

It will add heat to that little case, not sure how much though.

ah. no, no more heat.

it idles at 65 and peaks at 78 (this is after heatsink lapping and AS5 and a 200mhz UNDERclock) its an original P4 core.

and it even has a heat pocket area i found... so no more heat. lol.

maybe for the HTPC then....

I thought EXACTLY that.

If i were using it, i would grab 3, pull the units apart and mount them in a line in the case. Would look quite mad, you could have a cluster of them with pipes and stuff around them, would look great :).

Jaycar sell a tube amp that apparently is quite good for the price of it.

That Jay Car one is a tube pre (sort of) with a solid state power stage, and it has tone controls :(

Approach with caution.

I thought the valves were only there for effect when I first saw it.

Unfortunately some folk buy these things thinking they are in fact getting a real Tube/Valve amplifier.

Doesn't help when the makers promote them as such :(

As that bloke said.
Even when you use 4 EL84's in push/pull....the most you can get is 15w per channel.
