Continuing my search for a new sound card for my media center, i have come accross this nice cheap sound card.

I need 5.1 spdif output ability, i have a digital I/O module

http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=16&product=1780

I want to pass the audio through to my amp, and let it decode the audio.

The soundblaster website doesnt say wether or not the SBLive 5.1 can take the module, does anyone know?

unless you want optical output, you don't need the module. just plug a stereo mini-jack to 2*rca thing into at, and the right channel (from memory) is the digital output, with left being input.

the Live 5.1 does this and works fine under linux (mplayer -ac hwac3,hwdts, ).

The only problem with it is that it won't send CD audio out bit perfect, it resamples _everything_ internally to 48KHz, so 44.1KHz noise sounds horrible, to my ears at least.

Ooooh... I have that card, and one of those cords, testing now, I'll get back to you.

Edit: I have digital output working with a normal headphone - 2x RCA cable, the same one I was using to get analog stereo out oddly enough, however, no DD or AC-3 passthrough, the card is insisting on doing it's own decoding.

Note: I'm using the KX drivers, real creative drivers may function differently.

Thnx heaps for the feedback.

Its not the end of the world if the card does its own decoding..... i can just use the multi channel input into the amp.

I'll try creative drivers though, see if it works.

Thanks again guys
