I'm guessing this would be best suited in Audio where the audiophiles are?

firstly you'd most probably want a soundcard if you're spending that much on just the amp. From there we could work a better solution for you.. Will post more when I'm at my PC though..

Second hand gear would be completly acceptable the cheaper the better but with out the drop in sound quality.

also it cant be a huge honking peice of equipment as it will be on my desk though im sure i could accomodate it one way or an other.

had a look at the speakers as well, any reason you're going for two mids? In most setups you'll have a mid and a tweeter, I feel two may a actually diminish quality overall, will wait for your feedback and other's input on that note.

Any decent amp is going to be reasonably large......like a VCR size at least.

Don't bid against me or I'll be pissed!

It's a phenomenon called a "bookshelf speakers"

I've heard of them, aparantly they're smaller than normal speakers.....

Like you I don't know why people bother, aparantly size is a restriction people like to keep.

Not me, I have a 350l subwoofer.

Well now I think of it mini hifi stuff uses it a bit, really it would be just to keep the size down as youve said. Personally I'd still go with a single larger mid :P
