Hey, my current audio setup appears to be on its last legs:

Yeah.

So I was wondering if you have any suggestions for me. I was thinking something like Z-5500's from MSY is there something better I could get in that price range? I don't really care about surround sound and it's mostly for music.

No idea about headphones, I want something that will last a while (nice and solid) and not end up like a heap of shit like my razers did :P and I'm willing to shell out a bit of cash, something good enough to use with my amp would be nice.

Thanks. :)

Z-5500s are good value.
What's your budget?

Speakers around $350-$400 and probably about the same for head phones as long as they will last I don't mind stretching it a bit more I guess.

get the higer end sennheiser headphones, they have removable cords and what not so you'll never damage the cord, it just unclips.

as for speakers, Z4's for stereo

z5500 or G51 for surround.

also its much lower than your budget. and if youve been putting up with THAT you'll love em.

$450 odd will get you some excellent active speakers for music playback, check the links in my thread here http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=23&t=1384

I think they get more in next month, well worth the wait I reckon.

datafast never fails with his audio, lol.

agreed.

I was just thinking, that if hes been putting up with what you see in those pics,

basic sennheisers and logitech speakers are going to sound like pure digital bliss wired direct to his ears.

there are better, i agree, but this way he saves money and will still be fucking happy!

Agreed MS, but I'm thinking about the degree of happiness to be had :D

True that, bashing a brick into my ears would sound better. :P

Leaning towards cheaper speakers and some nice head phones, thanks for the help.

Those A5's look nice though. :)

Decisions, decisions... :P

EDIT: Do you think something like Sennheiser HD650's would sound good through my amp? They are a bit pricey but wouldn't mind the stretch if I could practice guitar when my room mates are around.

go into any JB and have a play with the range in store.

Even the 202's IMO sound fantastic for a light pair of throw arounds.

you want something better, a little more (about the 200-300 range) you start to get amazing closed headphones, with as i said, removable cords and replaceable ear padding etc.

I woudnt go above 300 for speakers\headphones.

Unless you're going active that is. As much as you CAN get better. Can you ge6 $100-200 better? nope. not IMO.

Opinions are just that be they from me or someone else, go into some places and listen to some gear, try some of the better places rather than JB and HN, you know... like real sound stores :P

Edit:And if possible try and find a store with the A5's, I think for music you may find these make the the best of the brands like Logitech speaker seem more than severely lacking. Actually the term "severely lacking" is being too kind :)

agreed.

of note though, is that a JB will always have a Sennheiser rack, so thats somewhere you KNOW you can go to try them.

Ended up getting some G51s and some Sennheiser's really happy with the speakers for the price, but the head phones are a bit odd, they sound good and all but some songs I can hardly hear the leads or vocals at all, it's strange. Currently listening to mandatory suicide by slayer and haven't heard a single vocal.

I plugged them into my amp and played guitar through them for a bit could this have damaged them? not sure if they where like this before or not, didn't really give them a good listen.

Oh wow Val Halen - Pretty Woman just came on and sounds absolutely messed up... nothing at all reminiscent of the song...

Any ideas?

EDIT: LOL! the 3.5 adapter was loose... n00b... all good now. :)
