If you live in Perth just go to Leederville and try them all out.

Well if you haven't already send Headphonic an email. When I purchased my Beyerdynamic DTX800's through them a couple of years ago they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Emailed and joined forums- MOST useful, yes :)

But I really need to find a place to actually put some of these on my head

Cheers :)

Edit: Oh, and I originally wanted the DTX800s- but they are open...

How do you find them??

I've got the beyer dt250's and while they are awesome for mixing music, they are not what you'd want.

I don't care what everyone else says, they are pissweak if you don't have an amp. I've tried them in my usb walkman and direct out from my x-fi and they aren't anywhere near loud enough. I have to plug them into my z5500 control box to amplify it to any sort of decent listening level.

Hey, by the by- do you have the 80ohm or the 250ohm version?

Out of audio techinicas I have the AD700'S, A900'S and A900ti's. Surprisingly the iphone drives the a900 series better than the back of integrated I was surprised out how well it did given my experience with some of the smaller ipods, the AD700's are fairly picky when it comes to onboard sound I've noticed, obviously less so with a dedicated sound card but still enough to note. (I'm not sure what your sound card is, but since you’re not interested in open that doesn’t really matter) . They all sound better amped but you know, no huge loss if they aren’t. In general I don't really like the AD700's all that much.

But yeah if the 900's are anything to go by as a reference to the lower end models, they should be fine running off an ipod. They are reasonably big though if portability is an issue.

Edit: As for everyone going apeshit over the sennheiser600/650's, I'd take the AKG K701's over them any day :P

Yeah, I've been eyeing off the Denons...

Must say the whole purchase has been pushed into the future- I want to get an Archos 7 first (which could be a while)
