X-Fi Creative and Vista Problems, need Help please.

Ok I have tried everything to get the sound card working and so far it does work after installing the latest vista drivers for the card. However, the audio console doesnt run properly, ever time I start my PC it defults the console back to 2.1 speakers and resets all the setting in the console for some reason and its starting to drive me nuts.
Has anyone else had similar problems can anyone give some advise? I am seriously thinking about ditching the card and buying a new Azuntech card.
I have a 7.1 Creative spearker setup and dont want to have to keep running the console from scratch and selecting all the setting I want each time I start my computers. Damn you creative!!!!

See if you get the "unofficial" Vista drivers and not the official Creative ones. "Daniel_K" fixed the official ones and Creative was unhappy with him.

Or just stop giving money to Creative ...

Please the edit button ...

I looked for these unofficial drivers but didn't find them. Might need to google for them a bit.

Don't know about the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1 Soundcard drivers.

You know everytime I see the word "Creative" and "Vista" in the same paragraph I get nervous.

There are new official drivers out for the X-Fi. Make sure you get the right ones for you model as there is some confusion.

I am aslo assuming that you have disabled the onboard sound through BIOS?

Hi ghostfacekiller,
Yeah I have disabled the onboard sound through bios. I have the correct drivers I am pretty sure, its just the console problem really. It alwasy defaults to 2.1 speakers no matter what I try.
I am seriously thinking about buying a HT Omega sound card and ditching the creative. Its not worth all the hassel. If you have any other suggestions please let me know.
Cheers

You're not going to like this but...

1. Windows Vista
2. X-Fi

Choose one.

I Totally agree Redhatter. I have choosen Vista and I will just buy a new HT Omega card, have read great reviews about it. I'll try and sell the X-Fi card to save me some money.

My personal choice would be XP and X-Fi.

I gave vista a try the other day... Sitting at desktop it was using 1gb of ram... with only drivers installed and running. And yes, with X-fi drivers working, but dunno if the audio console works... as I 'only' have a 2ch setup :)

XP with heaps of stuff running... Under 400MB.

The choice is a really simple one for me.

One word: SuperFetch
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/superfetch.mspx

That's why it takes more RAM.

hey man - I had the same problem with my Auzen but Frunj knows how to fix it. I had to change the setting of speakers in the windows sound section (in Vista obv) and only then would the Auzen drivers default to my 5.1.
Hope it helps, if it doesn't I'll ask Frunj to give you more exact details.

Hi M4rx, sound like it could be the same problems if you could ask the Funj to let me know what to do or at least how to do what you did that might fix the problems and save me buying a new card.

Well in WIN XP you can go to audio properties and choose your configuration. (control panel - > sound and audio devices ). Now in the X-Fi console you can tick a box that says "syncronise with control panel". You should always tick this. it is often better to choose you configuration through the control panel that way, then adjust the setting in the creative console.

sry for not getting back sooner.
