Audioengine 5 Speakers at low price

Speakers age well. It's not really a huge expense when you consider how long they can last.

My bedroom setup is a $375 pair of floorstanding speakers and a $500ish NAD C325-BEE amp. Love them.

Almost as much as I love my loungeroom setup. The centre speaker was the cheapest part of the kit, and it was $750. :D

The only bad thing about the speakers I've got is that other peopels systems tend to sound shit. I nearly went out and bought an ex a new pair of speakers just so I didn't have to listen to her $20 PC speakers.

That NAD is a pretty good amp, I'm running a restored 38 year old 25w per channel Sansui and it sounds lovely with my restored Richter Harlequin MKII's.

I understand you ecky about other systems, I gave my flatmate a Rotel amp + Yamaha speakers so I don't have to listen to his Logitech's :P

MS, the A5's are shielded, but then you only need that when near CRT's.

The thing a lot of people miss with component systems is matching, as in providing an amp that works well with the speakers chosen, this is where a good manufacturer of quality active speakers can excel as they have designed the amp and speakers to work well together (if they make the effort in doing so), and this is the case with the A5's.

They now even produce an active sub that can be paired with the A5's for the bass freaks :)

Yep. I plan to carry a set of Logitech X140's in my car. 2.0 speakers, with the best midrage of a sub $200 speaker set ive heard (and yes as kuch as i go on about them i HAVE eard a lot of stuff other than logitech).

I wana carry them just so I can plug them in wherever i go, and at least have a nice midrange to enjoy. (the highs and lows arent BAD either, just not amazing)

isn't it a waste to run a $500 speakers on an IPOD?

Yeah the reviewer on audioholics.com (link in first post) said they are too good for the Ipod. They are not tied to use with an Ipod either :)

And I guess anyone that wants this level of quality sound would probably not be playing compressed formats either ;)
