Found this, this afternoon. Looks like Creative want to stop the very man that has been helping thousands of people fix the problems creative wanted to sweep under the rug.

What do I think? Disgusting . I've done horrible things to companies like this in the past...for such actions...(some of you will remember the things I've done). It almost makes me want to fly back into action and make life hard for another mega-technology company.

...but I digress. This is an issue of legality/selling of someone elses IP, according to Creative at least.

Love to hear everyone else's thoughts.

I think JohnZS on page 2 summed things up pretty accurately.

What drivers was he making?

thats not KX-Project is it?

that would explain why KX-projects pages other than 'home' are 404ing

Edit: reguardless of WHAT driver it was, im joining the crowd in the creative boycott.

Hi Zebra,

Forgive my ignorance but I'd be interested to hear what things you have done to companies for actions similar to these. I know of you through the optical forum on another computer tech forum (can't remember it right now as the bookmark is on my other PC - you helped me regarding updating firmware for Pioneer 112D DVD drive), and appreciate that you have a wide range of knowledge regarding optical drives.

I'm just interested in how one man can influence a another company's future as you suggest, from a tactical point of view - if you can, why can't everyone else complaining about Creative? Maybe we/they can learn from that?

cheers,

EDIT: BTW, my Creative X-Fi still doesn't work in my new (last years) PC build, an AMD 6400 with XP Pro. I've been wondering what to do with it, now I know. Look for an alternate Audio Card. maybe an Auzentech...

Damn, that sucks. At least they gave him fair warning, without suing him straight off the bat.

I used his drivers to get my old Audigy 2 ZS working in Vista, since the Creative drivers were utter BS. The Auzen has good drivers now, but he was providing a service that Creative wasn't.

But he should've at least checked with Creative before he did it.

Can't they just hire him. :P

The last Creative card I bought was a sound blaster live! The drivers caused so many problems that in the end I gave up and stuck with the good ole realtek onboard solutions. Sure they weren't that great to begin with but they have improved over the years and they have worked flawlessly for me.

I can see Creative’s side of things but then I can see the end users side of things as well.

At the end of the day IMO, Creative are just being wankers over the whole thing. Give the guy a job and let him fix the drivers because, either they cannot/will not do it themselves.

Large companies like Creative need to be held accountable so, people should just stop buying their products and maybe they might just come to the party when they start losing money hand over fist.

Very interesting (and a tad nauseating).

As suggested by a few, the smart thing would be to enlist his services officially, they gain a more faithful consumer base, customers gain better support, he get paid for his work, so in the end all are benefited. Going down the current path I can't see anyone benefiting, quite the opposite actually.

Crazy world we live in.

After reading the OP I am now picturing zebra as a Zorro like character.

Trust Creative to go down the path of douchebaggery like the dumbfucks they are. In 2 yrs time, people will have forgotten this travesty of a company.

Still got my Audigy ES, still going strong, thanks to Dan_K's drivers.

My next sound card purchase will not have anything to do with Creative Labs.

It would seem that Creative's actions here, are anything but creative.

The creative thing to do, would be to get the relevant parties together, and work out an agreement in which the work could continue.

Indeed.

I think the most amazing bit is just how much publicity this has created. I saw a news-flash on ABC2 about it this morning *_*. To hit the mainstream media == PITA for Creative!

Serves Creative right for the way they run the business, I gave up on them once they released the X-Fi, before this I just cursed them.

GG Creative -_-

I knew the drivers for Vista were dodgy, I didn't know they were dodgy enough for a single third party to come along and fix.

That, for me, seems to be their first big failing. That the driver issues could be fixed by an outside third party who did not have access to the tools and resources the developers at Creative likely had.

The second major failing is rather then addressing him, and figuring out a solution that benefits consumers and everyone involved, they threatened him.

It's amazing how stupid some people are.

edit:
A post on the 6th page:

for Australian users, feel free to lodge a compliant on your product with your consumer watch dog.

it's against the trade practices act to sell a product that is unfit for it's description of use, since you state you support vista and you don't, your in breach of the trade practices act of Victoria and most likely the rest of Australia.

get ready to get your refunds boys.....

I'm not a lawyer, but there may be some truth in that. It *is* a breach to sell something that isn't fit for purpose; and that's what these cards seem to be.

If you have one, and can argue that - I'd suggest doing it, then buying an Auzentech Prelude =P

Haven't other companies got in trouble for doing stuff like this?

Disabling a function their device in software, to force you to pay more money to "upgrade" to a "version" of the device which has said function enabled in software?

apparently theyve let him continue as long as he touches no intellectual property in the process.

it will hinder him, and im still not happy, but at least its a lil better.

Last creative card I had was an AWE-64 which wasn't bad, but since I've just used the on-board. Why don't they just give him money and release his drivers as official ones ...

I'm a quite happy with my nVidia nForce4 sound solution on the current mobo.
