Just grabbed the new driver set. Fixes the DDL Distortion/crackle issue up entirely!

Yay, i've installed the new drivers & lost my console launcher..

& my mind....fuggin sound card drivers. I'm about to revert back to the old ones....!

8/
Now i've got entries 'stuck' on my "Add/remove programs" list which won't let me properly uninstall drivers for this bloody thing.

What a nightmare. I'm lost. Stuff updating drivers for sound cards ever again.

Fixed - reverted back to the old drivers & sticking to them, unless some evil substance takes hold of my brain & gets me curious....

I see DDL now requires an activation key during installation. That's a bit ghey, especially of you have to try and get a new one as a result of multiple driver installs or something (driver page eludes to limited DDL key uses). Interestingly, they keep listing DDL audio distortion as fix in these driver releases, but I've never had any.

Anyone played with the Soundfont Bank Manager? I remember stuffing around with soundfonts back in the AWE32 days.

Yeah that activation key verification threw me as well, & that Bank Manager...extra bloat.

It's seems the DDL activation is something put on Auzen by Creative, likely placed on them by Dolby. Activation is one thing, but a 'limited use key' could be problematic depending on how many OSs you have installed, and how often you reinstall them. I mean, they have our serial numbers to prove we're legitimate users, so why the limited use key??

It wont matter to most I suppose, but I had a whinge to Auzen anyway. I wonder if other soundcards that support DDL also have this limited use key BS?

Damn straight, you did the right thing having a go at them, I haven't even downloaded the drivers yet (tiny download limit) and it pisses me off.

If you don't suffer from any crackling, then I wouldn't bother with them.

Looks like i'll next consider going through this mess again when DTS encoding is supplied with the drivers.

maccdaddy, as Milano said I wouldnt bother getting them if everything works ok. I actually dl'd the new set the other night but havent bothered to install as everything works fine (no distortion at all, using DDL via optical). I'm still on "RC5_1 Patch 1.0" (last driver set before these new ones).

DTS inclusion will be interesting, though hopefully the DTS camp arent as draconian as the Dolby mob. pffft, limited used key indeed!

Edit: I notice that you cant download 'older drivers' for the Prelude anymore. Odd.

Dear Valued Customers:

Having received a number of complaints regarding the new registration process for X-Fi Prelude 7.1 drivers, I wanted to express my regret for any inconvenience caused to our customers.

Many emails asked why we require registrations for this one soundcard, since we have never done so before. To our surprise, a gentleman named Daniel Kawakami released a Dolby Digital Live Unlocker for Creative SB X-Fi series 1.0.0.0. He provided a link to download the Auzentech driver from our website and an unlocker to enable Dolby Digital Live on other X-Fi soundcards.

Daniel's actions, although done without malicious intent, have consequences.

* Our servers were strained due to a sudden download increase from non-Auzentech customers, affecting our customers negatively.

* Our licensing agreement with Dolby was threatened, because it only grants you, our customers who have paid for the license, the right to use Dolby Digital Live.

Daniel's actions also did not take into consideration the effort required to make Dolby Digital Live available. We work hard to provide drivers such as Dolby Digital Live and the soon-to-be-released DTS Interactive to our customers. These things don't just happen; we work long hours, and we can only continue to do so with the support of the audiophile community.

We are working to simplify the registration process or to find another solution to the problem. Nevertheless, if you are an Auzentech customer, please accept my apology for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Stephane Bae, President
Auzentech, Inc.

Yeah I'm not much of a DDL vs DTS guru. Will be useful for audiophiles that have been waiting for DTS playback in their movies, though, but I would have thought most would have been covered by Dolby anyway.

Good to see promises fulfilled though.
