It was released as such yes, though as promised, the DDL encoding has been enabled, with DTS still coming. Unfortunately at the end of the day the Prelude, being X-Fi based, is still at the mercy of Creative to an extent. Given that the card is primarily a gaming unit, I suppose they figured it was worth releasing sans DDL and DTS at the time, as EAX 5 and all the other gaming wizardry was complete and working.

Gotta say though, I have the card output in DDL via optical to my Logitech Z-5500D system generally, and with EAX 5 etc for gameplay its absolutely brilliant!

New driver release (actually 6.0.1.1281 [RC 5_1] re-released with Patch 1.0 )

Unfortunately it seems you cant just download Patch 1.0, you need to download the full "6.0.1.1281 + Patch 1.0" package.

Notes for Patch 1.0 fixes

Patch 1.0

Audio Distortion when using DDL

Important Note: In order for this fix to work, DDL must be enabled before start of the game playing.
If DDL is enabled during the game playing, some audio distortion might still appear.

(Never had any distortion at all myself, although DDL is always enabled by default, I'd never ever switch it off :D - SavageD)

VOIP in game suddenly stop working

WOW: VOIP operation is smooth in ‘World of Warcraft’.
BF2: The following sources of information are available on VOIP issues in Battlefield 2
Visit the BF2 Discussion on VOIP in BF2

Electronic Arts official forum website has reported issues with VOIP. There is a patch V1.41 available.

MIC volume Issue

Updated in Game mode.

Note: The MIC sound from analog port comes out with distortion/noise.

Memory utilization keep increasing with the Console Launcher.

The memory utilization increment is either very small (a few kbytes) each time you change mode, or no noticeable increase at all.

Has anyone used the DDL on this card yet? If so what are your thoughts on it? How's the quality and crosstalk and such?

I'm so severely tempted to buy this card because this feature is something that I've wanted for years and years. I'm so sick of changing options on my receiver depending on whether I'm listening to music, playing games, watching 2-channel TV/movies, watching 5-channel TV/movies, all of which I use different settings for. They would all be covered simply with CMSS and DDL. Speaking of which, does the DDL actually work -after- all the other processing like CMSS?

Yeah man, I use DDL exclusively. I output via optical straight into the Logitech Z-5500 Digital speakers. The Z-5500D control panel even identifies the DDL input on the LCD so I can tell if it drops out (it hasn't yet).

Obviously I'm completely biased toward this card (and its my first digital audio system on a PC), but I cant fault it whatsoever. It sounds so damn good, I've had two of my mates drop in offering to "help" play Crysis. Audio quality is as perfect as I've ever heard; nothing short of clean crisp audio (grenades 'crack' the air rather than just going 'bang' if that means anything). It's all subjective of course, but from a technical DDL output point of view there's been absolutely zero distortion of any kind.

With CMSS selected, the stream is still identified as DDL and behaves as you'd expect. Same with EAX etc.

I'm not erally an audio guru, but hopefully that helps.

That helps a lot, thanks. I've heard nothing but praise for this card. Looks like it's time to start saving a few dollars...

No worries at all dude.

Re: drivers posted above, it looks like Auzentech have pulled the Patch 1.0 driver set, and the vanilla 6.0.1.1281 (RC 5_1) set are back.

Meh, as always one can find the latest Prelude drivers are here: http://www.auzentech.com/site/download/updates.php

hrmm, i'm having an interesting problem.

I turn DOlby Live on, via the control panel and am using the optical to output to my Z5500's. However when i go to media centre and try and do speaker setup, Media Centre dies and Live stops working. If i revert it back to stereo via the optical (turn live off) it works fine but it won't work with live on. I need to try reinstalling the drivers from scratch as reinstalling over the top didn't fix it

Sound when it is working is great, far better than analouge

Weird. Are you using XP or Vista? Let us know how you go after the driver clean. If you havent already, it might be worth hunting down any media centre updates you're missing as well; I had to get a couple manually.

It'll be insteresting to see how it all goes with Vista 64 actually. I'm still on XP MCE '05 myself, but have Vista Ult 64 waiting in the wings for a dual boot once I'm happy that 64bit wont cause me any headaches :)

Ooh, I wonder what these security concerns are of which they speak...

Interesting para that. Given that they offer a "secure download link via the Auzentech Help Desk", it sounds like the public webpage driver download wasn't fully protected against outside interference.

I'd be waiting for the 19th or getting drivers from their "secure download link" rather than using a recently dl'd set, just in case.

The "RC5-1 Patch 1.0" drivers are back. You now need your serial number to download.

I was wondering why this thread has had so many hits, thinking that there aren't THAT many people interested in it on Atomic.

But some people googleise their drivers, and guess where the thread is?
