Auzen Prelude 7.1 Driver Thread

I thought it might be a good idea to have a driver thread for the Auzen Prelude 7.1, given that a number of people on the forum have the card.

I realise folk can check the website themselves, but soundcards often don't enjoy the close driver scrutiny of their GPU based bretheren, so can sometimes be overlooked.

Anyway, the latest driver is "6.0.1.1281 (RC 5_1)", released 19 Feb 08.

http://www.auzentech.com/site/download/updates.php

Details as follows

New Changes / Fixes in this driver:
-Applications have been revised to improve on the intermittent audio distortion issues when using DDL.

Changes / Fixes carried forward from RC5 driver:
- Corrects "Error I-001" seen by some users with RC4 driver.

New featuresand fixes carried forward from RC4 driver:
-Dolby® Digital Live SW Feature (DDL)
-ALchemy Application
-Volume Control Panel
-SW Bug Fixes requested by Auzentech.
-DDL license notice and trademark acknowledgements
-Input window fix
-DDL plugin update
-Driver bug fix on the BSOD during clock switch

No worries Frunj - Just a heads up, I noticed a bit of "hash" for a split second when firing the computer up after installing these new ones, so dont have the vol up too loud.

I've already deleted the previous RC5 driver set but as always, it might pay to hang onto them just in case.

Edit: Well how 'bout that. As it turns out, Auzentech also maintain an old drivers archive.

Sent an email to Auzentech re: Linux support, and received the following reply.

Thank you for contacting Auzentech.

As for the Linux driver, we project that the driver will be available at the end of this year. However, it is rather an early stage of development for us to project the exact release date.

Should you have any questions or comments, please let us know.

+1 Auzentech!

So how does this card compare, hardware wise, with a Creative X-Fi?

My X-Fi has been sitting on the table ever since I got the shits with trying to get it working.

I am trying to get a good audio set up for my AMD 6400x2/Windows XP Pro machine. I like the I/O drive bay panel of the X-Fi, as I do a lot of line in and line out stuff (recording off radio, burning to minidisc, etc).

Am considering the Auzentech...

It uses the X-Fi processor but other parts like the amps and ADC's are much better quality :D

Yay, Auzen review!

I mean.... >.>

9800GX2 review! :D

Sounds cool, as long as there's some Creative hating in there. Not creatively finding ways of criticising the Auzen, but a warning to stay away from the other X-Fi cards ;)

It may be a tad late, but here's a review of the card vs the Creative X-Fi eXtremeMusic:
http://www.cluboc.net/reviews/sound/Auzentech/Prelude/index.asp

Auzen Review
The Auzen X-Fi Prelude isn't just good, its scary good. The testing shows just how much better Auzen can make their card over the same chipset from Creative.

And here's an EXCELLENT review of the Auzen Prelude vs the Asus Xonar D2:
http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/preludeandxonarsoundcards/index.php

Note that the reviews are from late last year, and that Dolby Digital Live has since been incorporated into the Prelude drivers.

The conclusion page in that review says that the Auzentech doesn't support DTS and Dolby Digital Live.

"it disappointed us slightly with music and DVD playback. The sound quality wasn’t bad – it was above average, but the lack of DTS and Dolby Digital Live made listening to stereo tracks on a surround system a less than perfect experience."

Is this true? Because didn't Auzentech purchase a license for using Dolby features? And apparently the X-Fi in Vista with the Daniel_K drivers support all Dolby features?

There is no chance that this was not a good idea.

The Prelude didn't support Dolby Digital Live or DTS when it was first released, but these features have been added with the new drivers :)

Yep, Dolby Digital Live (oft referred to as DDL in their driver releases) has been in for a while, and DTS according to Auzentech should be available at the end of this month (April). Also, a further driver to improve DDL again will be available middle of May.

Auzentech stated that although they dont have access to the Creative driver source code, they are however researching the driver software and pushing Creative.

Ooh DTS & better DDL drivers. I'm happy with DDL as it is, but if they think they can improve it, go wild, Auzen.

Nice. Make sure you don't use the drivers that came with the card though! Download the latest & install them first!
