The link scanner does not bother me really. But you can turn off any of the features you don't want.

And I just jumped ship to avast thinking the days of the AVG free edition were over!

I'm quite happy with avast now that I've changed over, so do you think it'd be worth swapping back?

I think that avast is a good program. My dedication to AVG stems from years of use and no infection of my machine.

But to answer your question both are great programs but I think that the new AVG free has much more to offer.
