Trend Micro PC-cillin Security Pro 2008 woes

Anyone used this product yet?

It absolutely refuses to install on a clients laptop.

I have made sure the laptop is as clean as possible from viruses and spyware. I've uninstalled all previous security programs.

When I go to install Trend it says there is a threat, so it downloads some information and does a quick scan. It then finds nothing and starts installing. Then, towards the end, it stops installing with an "Installation interrupted" message and quits out.

The trend website has 1 applicable article detailing what to do IF a threat is found, but mine finds nothing.

Ever since the whole Trend/Spybot incompatibility issue from last years version, this is fast becoming my second most hated piece of software (after Norton).

Perhaps install AVG free and run a scan to make absolutely sure there are no viruses present.

Then try to install pc-cillin again. As it appears it is finding something before install but failing to remove it which is stopping it from finishing it's install.

Better yet drop pc-cillin and leave AVG or Avast on the laptop. ;)

yeah, ran avg (in safe mode) as part of my cleaning routine already.

Put it back on and was planning on informing the client to leave it as is and forget about stupid pc-cillin :P

I have also had MASSIVE problems with this product.

If you have Vista with UAC on, it doesn't work. Full stop. Doesn't work. I am currently demanding my money back.

Yep just uninstalled it from a customers notebook as it bogged it down big time.
1.7 Intel pentium with 768mb ram and intel gfx.
Because of other issues I did a fresh install of XP which allowed me to compare it with and without Security pro 2008.
After installing it was taking several seconds for the programme menu to come up, plus it tripled the time it took for Firefox, Outlook Express or Internet Explorer to launch. Itunes was even worse than its normal bloated self, being so slow to start that several times I thought it had actually failed to launch at all. Uninstalling it bought the laptop back to normal.
This just confirms what I have thought for a while. Security suites are huge godawful resource hogs and should DIAF.

Hi, I am a novice in computers. I installed the trend pc cillin internet security 2008 in my computer desktop. It initiate the scan but when it reaches files as the below, it nearly freeze and stay scanning and scanning for one, two hours...those files and the files after them are never scanned really because I got tired and stop the scan.

I called Trend twice and they told me to install again but it did not work.

THe names of the files finish with .msp and the name of one of them is: windows\installer\1648909.msp

also my pc is having trouble with the sound, really it looks like every thing is going reeeaaalllyyy slooowwllyyy, specially internet...the sounds come up in pieces of sound...

Maybe it is a virus of some kind that went throug since trend maybe is not working properly...

taken in account that the antivirus has been showing a message after any update, saying that there was a problem and the update was not done, so trend got back to the previous update. In other words my PC has been without proper protection for a while.

Please, any help!!!!!

If you read the above posts you will see you are not alone with problems using pc-cillin.

My advice is to cut your losses and drop it in favour of either Avast or AVG.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/

As for spyware use spybot and windows defender.

Do not cut your losses. DEMAND a refund! I got one, you should get one. They have shipped a product that simply does not work, it is illegal under Australian consumer law in all states and at the commonwealth level. Push them, you will get your money back. When yuo do, get BitDefender. Best AV ever. I was using trend before (prior versions), and spybot etc would pick up the odd bit here and there trend didnt. Now? Spybot finds nothing. Windows defender finds nothing. BitDefender has stopped the lot. It is fantastic.

+1 to Trend Micro PC-cillin Security sucking the proverbial. It worked fine for a couple of weeks, then had issues regarding updates, couldn't work around these even with TM customer service/tech help. Then had a whale of a time uninstalling it...

Putting my faith/hope in AVG for now...

I know this is late, but I just joined this forum. This is a little piece of info for everyone that is having install issues with Trend's new Internet Security 2008.

open regedit,
HKLM_\ right click on software and click on Permissions
add a new user named Administrators
Click on check name and click apply and ok
close registry

Try installing Trend's new Internet Security 2008. It'll work now!

Sooner or later even the best can be beat.
