I just put my new comp together and i finally got vista and i'm trying to install it on my old harddrive which i have formatted so it's been wiped. Whenever i install though it gives me an error code and says that there are certain files that don't exist. I have no clue what to do. I'm attempting to get xp but i'm pretty sure that it will require me to reformat the hd and that already failed when i tried it. I'll check back again to see if xp will work. Any help with vista would be a great help please.

You do have a full version of vista yes ? Not the upgrade ?

Please use Edit Post

Also, maybe you should get a proper copy rather than 'downloading' it.

It is a proper copy. My university runs a program through our engineering school that allows engineering students to get microsoft products through download or by having the cd sent via mail. I think the problem is my HD is being read and then sometimes isn't being read. I'll be buying a new HD today to see if it changes anything. The current HD i have which was originally my external took a massive hit on the ground a little while ago. I took it to geek squad where they removed the cover and now i have it as a regular HD. The bios sometimes won't recognize the HD though so i figure that's what the problem is. The installation has had that error happen at 50%+ at 0% at 22% 7% so i figure it's just a problem with the harddrive not being read sometimes

Sounds like a corrupt ISO.

I have had this happen too, usually re-grabbing the iso or re-burning it will work.
