Logitech G7 or G5 or MX518

Hey guys,
I need a new mouse with my new PC, as my 2 others are 3 button IBM mices (shudder). I love buttons, buttons make me happy. I prefer a biggish mouse as I have quite big hands, but not giant (I hate Laptop sized Mice). Logitech are renowned for their mice and I decided that they are good value for money too. I was content on getting the MX518 a while ago, but I hear alot of people go with the G7 and G5, I am really not a fan of wireless mice, which is what the G7 is. I notice alot of mice nowdays have a dpi of 2000 where as the MX doesnt, it only goes upto 1600. I am not sure but I think the G5 has a button for real time DPI change, when sniping or some such.

I'd like your advice and experiences with these mice, and help me make a decision. O and the G7 is actually out of my price range, so chances are I won't get it.

Go get yourself a deathadder.

http://www.fluidtek.com.au/webcontent92.htm

Tis a much better choice.

However if you are going to be buying one of them, my vote is g5, only for the extra feet on the mouse, smoother glide. G5v2 (2007 version?)

here are some links to help you.
make sure u get the 2007

so? i have it and i think it rocks
talk to das_book about how shit the deathadder is compared to a LASER, LOGITECH mouse. see what you get in return.

if you had to pick one that wasnt logitech, what mouse would you pick?

and if you dont like the look of the deathadder, get the Intellimouse 3.0, as is similar shape and is better than the MX518.

this is what it looks like in real life, more than 3 buttons... http://reviews.cnet.com/mice/razer-deathadder/4505-3148_7-32331184.html

unless your a leftie, this is your best bet apart from the g5.

in the end, its all down to Personal Preference, i suggest going to a dick smiths and using the g5, then buying it at a cheaper place. (its 150 or so at dick smiths.)

Ok, thanks for the other link, but I still really don't the look, but as you said, it is down to personal preference. The Logitech mice offer lots of features aswell as practicallity and ergonaomic design. The Razors have a good repetition but to me the look needs a little less practicality hehe.

i didnt buy the deathadder for the looks.
but have fun with your g5 when you buy it.
to get it cheap, JB (at the right place, ring 1st) has the 2007 for 80 $$ on sale, i would get it there before it runs out, or the sale ends....ebay......look at www.staticice.com.au and so on so forth, have fun with it, seems like lots of ppl have this mouse and enjoy using it.

Forget the G5, its laser.
If you want Wireless, the G7 is ok, altho there are alot better wireless mice out there.

My pick of those three would be the MX518, best sensor out of the lot. It will track on more surfaces than the G5/G7, and is actualy balanced (unlike the G5 which requires the weights to be all loaded otherwise its offbalance)

The deathaddar actualy has the same number of buttons as the MX518 (ignoring the DPI switching buttons), and is a good mouse.

If you insist on going laser, then the only decent laser mouse is the A4 tech X7 X-710BF, its the only laser mouse with a laser sensor that has the same proformance (or close to) as a good optical mouse.

My perfect mouse would be the Fatal1y 2020 with the Razer Dimondback sensor, and none of the fatal1ty logos.

It's the phile factor. He actually thinks the precision over 250dpi matters. What matters with a mouse is how it feels. That's about it.

The funniest kind of phile is the extreme audiophile. The kind of person who'll buy something like this: http://www.audioreview.com/cat/other/power_conditioners/ps-audio/PRD_117938_5824crx.aspx and proclaim it removes noises that no monitoring can pick up and no other human can hear.

+1 Tantryl (SexKitten)

Any of the logitech mice will serve you well. I have the original MX1000 (which is wireless), and I can't tell the difference between that and the G5 (corded), except for I like the shape of the MX1000 a bit more.

I'm sick and tired of people telling me the G5/G7/G3/MX1000/Copperhead/Habu are fine!

Why is it with everyone one of these mice, as-sson as I go to flick the mouse to turn around I end up looking at the floor or celing, or just anywhere that IS NOT where I wanted to look?!?!?!?!

Why is it with the DimondBack/WMO1.1/IE3.0/DeathAddar/MX500/MX510/MX518/MX300/G1 when I do the exact same menuver I end up looking directly where I want?!?!?!

And YES I have used all them laser mice, are you going to tell me that each and everyone of them where faulty?

And no, I don't care about DPI, DPI is the last thing I care about when choosing a mouse, i don't care if its 400dpi or 1gagilion dpi, what matters to me is that when I do a movmeent in game, the game bloodywell responds how I want it to, and not crap up because the mouse is a piece of shit!

No, it's because you have a very active imagination.

*EDIT* Aside from all the reviews that say various laser mouses are excellent for gaming, that's really not what matters.

What matters is all the people telling you it's good. It's a mouse. It's an input device. How it feels and how people think it's working are all that matters, it's very abstract that way. The specs make no nevermind: If the mouse feels right to someone, it feels right. That's all there is to it.

Now you don't like all laser mouses (except an A4 Tech one?), and seem to have tested every single one of them. Impressive. But in all honesty you need to get the hell over it.

I know someone out there will have a list of the various mice competitive gamers use. If someone feels like posting that up along with whether the mouse is laser or LED that'd be interesting, although last time I checked most of them are still using the same mouse they used 5-10 years ago.

On a side note: Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 is a flimsy bugger. I've taken a lot of returns on them, especially from gamers - the left mouse button gives out after about a year and becomes unclickable.

Right, so the fact that all the laser mice i've used skip at high speeds, and have enormouse negetive acceleration is just my imagination, and alot of gamers imagination as well.
</sarcasum>

I believe I was the one who put up the list of mice competitive gamers use, and I'll do it again right now.

Microsoft Wheelmouse Optical 1.1 - Cooller, jibo, toxic, fojji, lost cause, nomadic, sujoy, lexer, lauke, blue, cypher

Microsoft IntelliMouse 3.0 - socrates, vo0, lakerman, stermy, evenflow

Logitech MX300 - clock, czm, chaoticz

Logitech MX310 - av3k, ztryder (used to use a G5)

Razer Dimondback - winz, purri

The only top player who is using a laser mouse at the moment is Fatal1ty, and thats because he kinda has to use his own products (the 2020 is a laser mouse). I'm gonna take a guess and say that was one of the reasons he wasn't ontop last year, watch any of his games and he is unable to do a 180* turn quickly.

There has to be a reason Microsoft brang back the IE3.0, surly they wouldn't bring back a crappy mouse that noone wanted to use....

maybe you need to learn how to control mouses?

every laser mouse i've used has been fine when needing to spin quickly, but it does come down to personal preference. could possibly be that i've been using laser mouses for so long that i've learnt how to handle them. i dunno really.

out of the 3 logitech's i'd go with the g7, but again that is personal prefernece. i love the feel and the missing wire. go in-store, have a handle of em all, and pick one that feels right for you.

Oops, I was remembering incorrectly. The left mouse button failure rate was on the MSIE4.0. My bad.

Thanks for the list that shows almost all mice are 5-10 years old used by gamers. They play with, as I've mentioned, what they're comfortable with - which is all that matters.

I'm glad you've admitted it was your imagniation. What's sarcasum by the way?

did you really need to ask that? im being shot in the arse and im gonna leisurely stroll around, taking my time without a care in the world? screw that!

i move as quick as my reflexes allow, and im a high sensitivity gamer so i don't have to move the mouse far at all.

Hence why a laser mouse will work for you.

If you need to move your mouse more than about 15cm to do a 180* turn, then the speed required to do so sends laser mice crazy.

I use 40cm for a 360* turn, i know thats not normal, and I'm not going to try and convince anyone to play at that insanly low sensitivity, but most people I know use around 20cm+ for a 360* and have the same issues I have.

There are alot of other forums where alot of users complain about these faults with laser mice.

SexKitten, I'm guessing you have never used a WMO1.1 with hyperglides, smoother than a G5 by far, and 10x reliable.
