I has an idea... Hackintosh Macintosh =:{P

I had an idea today... of picking up a 1st generation iMac (the bondi blue 15" CRT Model) I think the Revision A imac would be best as it has the mezzanine slot that I could possibly fit an expansion card out of.

Then I could load it up with a via ITX board whilst using its screen, the issue is that I'm not quite sure that those ITX boards are supported fully and whether they have full SSE3 support either... I would need at least a CPU that has SSE3

I've pulled an iMac apart before my dad owned one when they were new, and i'm pretty sure the CRT in them uses a standard VGA connector, furthermore I think there's enough room in one of those cases to fit an ITX board. Given that the keyboards are just USB I think they should work with Mac OS X. So I'd end up with something like a 1.5ghz iMac that looks for all intents and purposes like an iMac but has a 1.5ghz CPU, and a modern version of OS X

So what does everyone think?

If I could do it I'd end up with a 1.5ghz iMac running OSX 10.5.4

The other option would be a full sized ATX board in something like a blue, and white G3 case with a similiar purpose.

I guess I could call it the upgradeable G3

A G4 Cube would be another cool case to get but I'm not sure if there's enough room

Because I can and to defy the fact that these things can only run on OS X 10.3

Well it's an idea isn't it? XD

Can someone tell me if Via's C7 or upcoming CN chips have SSE3 support?

"SSE, SSE2 and even SSE3 are all supported by the VIA C7-M processor"

And from what I can tell, the CN should have SSE4 - Dunno about SSE3 cause I have my own shit to go and google ;)

You should see if OSX86 supports the hardware you want to use.

Yeah that's the next step I just wanted to see whether the CPU I was thinking about would have SSE3 so it would run OS X properly

EDIT: apparently VIA CPU's have an incomplete SSE instruction set and don't work very well as such with there implementation from what i've been reading.

It also is a bit of an issue with hardware support for its onboard peripherals. I might have to upscale this project to a full sized case possibly a black G3 all in one of the black variety for added posterity

The VIA C7 claims SSE3 support

See

It's still slower than a Pentium M and Turion.
