Stacker 810: Stage II

This is pretty much a copy paste from my OCAU thread, but not everyone visits there and I want to share the love (read show off :P)

It's been about five months since I took a virgin case and modded it to fit a watercooling rig with a window and a slick paint job, but my vision is not yet complete.
Unfortunately water cooling isn't cheap, so I've been saving my pennies and slowly buying up some new gear to implement the next phase of my creation, which includes but is not limited to new fans, a fan controller, CCFLs and controler, a rejig of my water loop to make emptying and filling much easier, cable tidy, and the addition of my new 8800GT to the loop in place of the 7800GTX that was.

I sat down for a few solid hours this evening and did most of the electrics, and took a few photos in the process.

Shortening a power cable to a single connector...

So I can run it up the side of the motherboard, underneath the PCI cards

Out with the old (assorted fans I had lying around)
http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/6466/uni0589sc6.jpg

And in with the new (70CFM Yate Loons)

Front of case as it was
http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/4282/uni0586cs4.jpg

And now with fan and light controllers

Old side view

Open side - I'm testing out the old 7800GTX to make sure my heatsink reattachment was a success. And yes, that is my GPU block in an anti-static bag. Can't be too careful.

Let there be light!

Side on, lights on

Tomorrow I'm hoping to fix up the loop and get the new GFX card on water.

Cool, looks pretty interesting :)

I'm not a fan of the lighting (hence my case, with power LEDs unplugged), but very nice job on that window.

Make sure you post temps/results too, just for the fun of it!

My mind is constantly at war over the bling issue.

I didn't like the big mesh dome on the side of the stacker, so I replaced it with a window. Then I could see into my case, but it was always dark :(
It goes off when I sleep and there's control over the cathodes, so light isn't an issue if I don't want it to be. They won't be on just because the computer is.

Temps; IIRC I was getting about 54C CPU under full load in Core Temp, and about the same on my GPU.
Without the GFX card in the loop temps CPU temps are pretty similar, which I suppose is a good sign that the rad is doing its job. I suspect the weakest point is heat transfer between the CPU and the water block.
On air I was getting 64C load temps, the X2 4400 is a decent chip, but not as cool as the new Intels.

Swiftech ramsinks come pregummed, but the gum is useless. Coat the bottom in metho for a couple of seconds till the gum goes cloudy, then it comes off fairly easily
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/4907/uni0621rh7.jpg

Like so.
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5610/uni0624pt7.jpg

Had to modify a couple of ramsinks to fit under the water in/outlets.
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/1672/uni0627jw9.jpg

Ready to go.
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/3576/uni0629sn9.jpg

Thermal adhesive. Last time I used Araldite, but I'm guessing this is probably better in this situation.
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/7113/uni0633ip5.jpg

A dot in each corner. Technically this stuff is permanent, and I want to be able to remove the sinks if I have to.
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/1287/uni0640lr5.jpg

All done!
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/4138/uni0644sv3.jpg

T-line is now up top instead of at the bottom of the case
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/8586/uni0647av1.jpg

It's a boy!
I had the idea to put an empty port mounted into the bottom of the case, but it wasn't going to work out. Given I had the parts, I installed an empty line anyway.

Graphics card in place with waterblock mounted.

Everything in place
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/4334/uni0661vz8.jpg

Lights up!
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/3783/uni0665wj6.jpg

And side on.
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/2927/uni0671eq0.jpg

I'm very happy with how the whole thing turned out.
With the fill T up top the loop is now much easier to fill and prime from empty. Cabling is all a little neater, and my new GFX card is on water, not to mention the light show!

the cabling makes me edgy, i wanna hide it all :P

other than that, keep at it, looking promising

if you must consider, consider why it is that you consider the fact that consideration will result in it being considered greater to consider than to not consider, then consider why you consider at all.

then ask yourself, why do we exist at all?

Fat_Bodybuilder: Sorry, I was a bit frustrated with a couple of things at the time, and didn't end up taking any.

beatshoes: I've done mostly what I can, in such a big case it's difficult due to the length of most cables. Could probably sleeve power cables. Any suggestions?

dude, you do know that those two shorter ram sinks that came were for under the Water pipes?

As in those two at the bottom were for where you put the modified ones :

They're not actually any shorter than the others, it's just foreshortening from the camera angle.

I didn't actually mention it here, the paper guy got in contact with us via OCAU.
