Build, MOD, Painting Inside My CM 690 Case...

I was just saying it to be saying it.. I wont be getting a QX just for the epeen. I'm completely happy with my Q6700 for now.. and ya it's only at 3.2 but I'm giong to OC it a little more again now.. I just changed rooms in my house for my PC.. the old room the computer was in a corner with a wall on the side so it was almost like a little cubicle.. the heat was bad.. and OC's were stable but was a little to hot for my liking.. But now in my new room the PC's much cooler, it gets better ventilation. better airflow outside. it's making a much much bigger difference than I thought it would.. right now my Q6700 idle. (Well online) Idle with a OC to 3.2 is at 29 C average.. Thats pretty good i think. and it used to stay around 40 or more.. and that was at 3.5GHz. So now the room is much bigger, and it's much cooler in this room. the other got really hot, I think the PC was making the small room and corner hot from the heat it puts off.. this new room it doesn't even phase it. it's 4 times bigger. my CPU is around 25C when I wake it up.. and takes a good 10 mins or me doing something extreme to get it up to 30C now. Here's a Screeny of it. The picture is a little wierd cuz the screenshot took a picture of both monitors.. so I cropped the other monitor out.. other than sidebar so you guys can see how hot it is where I live.. and thats not the highest it gets either. it gets worse.

So now I'm thinkin I'll go back to 3.5 and enjoy that. :)

Hey gunther, your samsung monitor as two ports - one dsub and one DVI right? is it possible with the samsung monitors to have your GPU plugged into the digital port, and say an analog external source (like a vcr/tv tuner) plugged into the dsub port via component to dsub adapter?

i doubt that it does, but i'll be stoked if it works.

uhh... dsub is basically another name for the VGA port correct.

yes it has both.. lots of monitors have both.. both that and my dell 1905fp both have VGA and DVI ports.. so I think you could do what ur askin. if you can get the adapter.. I'm not sure tho. lol

edit* how about use the S-video port thats on ur GFX carD?

isnt that svideo port an output? i will be outputting a tv signal via svideo or composite from a separate source either direct into the monitor, which i would imagine will create problems if both the tv source and the computer are sending a signal to the monitor, or as you say, send the tv signal to the gfx card, but i think most only have the three outputs and no inputs dont they?

ya i think they only have outputs.. I'm not exactly sure on how it all works.. someone else would be able to help you more.. post in one of those area's.. and as to ur comment on it sending 2 signals to the monitor at the same time.. thats ok. I have a Source button by my screen display bottons.. and I can go from AUX, to analog, and Digital.. so whatever you need. you go to.. make sense.. that could be of help.. might want to ask someone else tho..

Ya I'm pretty happy with my Cable management.. I've gotten lots of posts and compliments about it.. so thank you. It was pretty fun getting it all right. and changing things sucks a little cuz I used a few Zipties. I now use twist ties so I can reuse instead of having to cut them off.. Good luck with yours.. and posts pictures when ur done plz!

ya it sure does, just perfectly long enough.. and the fan on the bottom is blowing Air into it's fan. so it works good..

and yes I'm overclocking. So far my GTX260 is at 648/1404/1260 vs Stock of 576 MHz, etc.. and at that OC it's idle temp is 45C and I've yet to see it on ANYTHING go above 62C.. Nothing gets it higher than that.

Also I have my Q6700 OC'd to a stable clock of 3.4 GHz with temps of average of 36C or so on idle.. 3.4 used to be to warm for me, but now with an extra top 120mm fan for better flow, it's actually making about a 4-6C difference. and that makes it cold enough for my liking cuz it stays under 40C on idle.. lol.

I'm still slowly reaching my Highs. I'm going to raise the CPU here in a few days and see how high I can go with manageable temps on Air.
and as for the GTX260. I've seen more than a few people's up to 700. and plenty over 700. Even a few at 750. so I'm thinkin I'll keep going on it also.. even tho at it's current speed it's Giving the 280 a run for it's money, if not beating it..

Thanks!

Sounds good. You should easily be able to hit 3.6ghz if not more on that cpu. Is the fan on the GTX very loud keeping the card at those temps??

Not really actually.. I'm very impressed with this fan.. It's Much Quieter than my 8600GT.. and a little quieter than my 8800GTS also..

I've been using fan at 50% or sometimes 60%. and at those speeds I can't hear it over the other fans like the fan in my Tuniq Tower.. so it's not bad.. only above 80% can I hear it.. It goes get loud.. but for me, those Speeds for the fan aren't needed..

:)

Looking really nice there xguntherc. Every time I see a CM690 I think about retiring my Antec 900 and getting a CM690 to replace it.

lol ya I know huh.. the 900 is a good case to tho.. just a little to loud for my taste.. although you can always turn the fans down I guess..

YA, so I was on a little web site a few nights ago, called the Official CM690 Club. it's for people that have the cooler master CM690 case. it's not the best case in the world. but lots of people have it, and love it. So I heard a few rumors, not just with my case, but lots of cases. that having a side fan is actually not a good thing. and temps are better without one. So I gave it a whirl and I've got some good results to show for it.

I have 3 input cans, one front, one bottom, and one side panel. I then have one exhaust, and 2 top fans. All of these are 120mm fans.

So I was told to unplug, or remove the side panel fan, as it causes the airflow to be messed up. Basically the air comes from the front and the bottom, flies through my case and out the back and top. with the side fan it's blowing it all sideways, disrupting the complete and perfect airflow from front bottom to top rear. So I removed the Side fan, and temps are actually decently better.

With Side panel fan and Q6700 OC to 3.4 GHz I had a temp on average of 38c on idle. sometimes more. now with the same clock of 3.4 GHz and NO side panel fan. I'm sittin pretty at 33C idle. IMO thats a pretty big difference. thats a good 5C thats the difference in passing and failing OCCT because temps get to high. So I'm pretty happy with that result. Give it a try People. see how it works out for ya.

Just my $0.02
