1. You can remove the piezo, LED and switch. you can even cut the board - make sure it is below the group of thick traces that run most of the length of the board, about 10mm up along the longest axis.

Post a photo and i'll show you

Pin connections:

1: (Red stripe) DB7 (LPT 9)
2: DB6 (LPT 8)
3: DB5 (LPT 7)
4: DB4 (LPT 6)
5: DB3 (LPT 5)
6: DB2 (LPT 4)
7: DB1 (LPT 3)
8: DB0 (LPT 2)

11: Ground (0V)
12: 5V+

16: Enable - LPT pin 1
17: Register Select - LPT 16

9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20
Not connected

If you get the oatley electronics one, you get a very generous (close to 1m) 20-way IDC cable, with heatshrink over it, so you can just chop that and solder a D25 male connector onto it. There aren't really any colour standards, it is easiest to just grab some ribbon cable and a new D25 plug

Cut off 1 end and use a multimeter to match the wires to the pins on the parallel port plug

Most multimeters have a continuity setting, when you have a valid connection it beeps.

Or if your meter doesn't, just use a resistance measurement. practically 0 Ohms, you've got the matching wire.

Avoid these ones. Them(they?) or their very very slight varients can be purchased just about anythere, I had 3, the second one still kinda works.

Hello and welcome.

Please make note of the emergency exits, they are marked, "SPAM", "Abuse" and "If you don't like it leave!"

I've never had one of them, if you get a reasonably good one it will last just about forever (7 years and counting, $50 when purchased, it doesn't have any fancy features though)

Except i've been through a set of test leads

Jaycar has a good range, you don't have to pay a fortune for a good one, and you don't need a fancy one for basic modding work

Do not store near fruit, vegetables or smallgoods.

It worked for me

$30 will get you a fairly good one with Temp probe and backlight screen
