g'day punters,

anyone know of a place in brisbane to get good prices on cat5 and cat6 ethernet cables? Looking at like 20-40 2m cables of each.

cheers

I'd either suggest checking through http://www.staticice.com.au/ first, or try and find out if you have any mates or mates of mates who've got an account with a tech-bit wholesaler. If I remember right, wholesale prices on patch cables are shockingly low (Though that was a few years back, things might've changed).

thanks lordbug. It amazes me how expensive patch cables are at retail. I was even tempted to buy a 100M roll from jaycar and crimp them myself, although putting the wires in the end connectors is a very painful and tedious process. Anyway, I managed to find a draw full of 1M cat5e (like 50 or so) and they seem to be long enough so I might just use them. Being so short, I'm even getting gigabit through them so it's a win all round!!

thanks for the info everyone. Much appreciated. The pricing at www.4cabling.com.au is much lower than retail. The menu on the left side at queensland connectors didn't work on my browsers (IE, FF, Safari) - is it meant to do anything or is it just a list? Nevermind, the other place is good enough anyway.

To tell you the truth I've never even looked at QCC's website - I just e-mail or phone them for a quote. They're generally very responsive and put in a lot of effort to track down hard to find bits and pieces (odd fibre transceivers, fibre leads with funny connectors). They stock a lot of pre-made cables but also make custom ones as required.
