Networking on E1000H with Ubuntu

OK, So I installed the Ubuntu distro available through Dave's article and it seems to not work with the onboard Ethernet.

I figured I may as well ask this here as I can't seem to find any info on any forums, wiki's or ubuntu help sites that give a decent fix for it.

Can someone help me or is my best bet to install the full distro and see what happens?

Update, Installed from full original Live CD, still didn't work.

Can you grab the output of "lspci" and "ifconfig" for us?

lspci lists all pci devices that the linux kernel has found.

ifconfig tells us a small summary of your network interfaces.

Well, the kernel is only picking up a single ethernet device, which seems to be your wireless as I'm guessing ath_hal is Atheros, who make wireless chipsets.

Also, for future reference it's a good idea to do ifconfig -a, as that will show all devices, not just the ones that have been configured. But as you provided a dmesg, that won't show us anything we don't already know.

Now, for the solutions. Firstly, are you sure that the 1000H is supported by your chosen distro? If it isn't, if it's practical, I would reload the original OS onto it and see if it picks up the hardware ethernet. If it doesn't, you have a broken motherboard / logic board. Whatever board the ethernet chip or connector is soldered on to. Get a replacement unit while your warranty still lasts!

*repeats what wilsontc said*

Out of curiosity, what IP address are you expecting to see on the Ethernet adapter?

It's possible that it is working and that eth0 is your ethernet adapter, and something else strange is happening.

Rob.

eth0 is my USB port which is plugged into my NB5+4

The Eth port was working on Vista before I wiped and installed Ubuntu.

Is there anyway to check if ubuntu HH supports my Eth adapter?
