i'm a linux noob.....I went to the link and got it installed onto a usb stick.

Did you use Unetbootin? If so you did it correctly.

But how do i install it onto the drive?

Boot up off the USB stick. Easiest way is to hit "ESC" during POST and a little menu comes up asking you to choose what device to boot off. Choose the USB stick :P

Yeah got it booting off the usb stick. But I was hoping to install it onto the ssd?

After booting from the USB stick, after selecting your language, you should get a menu.

First option will be to boot Ubuntu EEE off the USB stick, from there you can install it.

Second option will be to install Ubuntu EEE. Which basically does the first option and starts the install process automatically.

Do you see this menu? If not you aren't booting off the USB key, which suggests something didn't go right with Unetbootin.

Rob.

[edit]: For now though I'm going to bed :P Will be back tomorrow.

Once it boots into live cd, you should get an icon on desktop to install or in the start / main menu.

I am installing alpha 4 of intrepid right now, it seems to be the best option as it has no netbook remix, support the ethernet drivers and bluetooth and just looks nice.

hmmm....ok, I've found that install icon and installed it to the ssd.

Now I can't access my sd card. It says unable to mount or something like that.

OK, you need to open terminal, and use the following;

sudo gedit /etc/fstab

Once in there, the last line should mention cd or something, remove any USB drives and SD cards, and delete the line, once you save, reboot and any device you plug in should mount.

Let me know how you go.

Cheers.

No worries.

For the record, I removed ubuntu due to lack of wireless and bluetooth on 8.1 Alpha, lack of Ethernet on 8.04 and lack of usable fashion on 8.04.1 Ubuntu EEE.

Fucking Netbook remix fucks it all up.

If you like it, go for it, but I couldn't stand the lack of application visibility.

skype most likely.

EDIT: Search synaptic package manager or add / remove and enter MSN as the search term, it will give some decent replacements as a result.
