best way to shrink hi res images to under 500k?

Photobucket do a maximum of 1mb per image if you configure the settings correctly.

Photoshop, with a plugin called BoxTop ProJPEG. This thing squashes files flat, it's amazing. Part of my essential loadout.

He tells the truth. I love that plugin. And he got me onto it.

It's got a better algorithm for compression than the standard Adobe JPG. Some of the filesizes that it's been able to acheive without having to lose quality or dimensions is quite impressive.

thanks guys, the issue was that i signed up for a hosting account like 8 years ago, and they still havent upgraded, so the maximum size for images was under 500k.

Photoshop, Paint.net, or GIMP which is my personal favorite! Just save as a .gif ;) That's the best way to cut down filesize for lossless compression i think.
