Problem with opening files with a Java application

Hey guys, got this little problem from work.

We have these files which are to be opened by a java program. (.axl files and ArcExplorer, if you're curious) Problem is, you can't just double click on them in explorer to open them since windows doesn't appear to accept "javaw.exe" -blah -blahblah blahblahblah as a valid application to open the files with because of all those suffixes.

I can only think of one real solution: write up a dummy application in a compilable language of some sort to "open" the file, but really just starts up java with the right suffixes to open the file in ArcExplorer.

Does anyone have a better solution? Anyone see any flaws with this idea?

It really depends on how this ArcExplorer application runs.
Look in the documentation for it. It may have listed how to pass filenames at execution. Then you'll have to configure files with the .axl suffix to be passed as parameters to the executeable.

This sounds more like an OS issue as opposed to a java issue.

I already know how to pass filenames at execution. But Windows explorer cannot use ArcEcplorer as an application to open files with because Arcexplorer is a java application, and Explorer only likes opening things with executables. Java applications are not Win32 executables.
