hey Grelk I might be up for a bit of a 40k refresher course, I haven't played since the last edition rofls...

sweet, i can do that. not a lot has changed, its mostly changed in the way shooting works. but a 3 way learner game will be good. plus it will allow me to brush up on the rulebook, and its finer aspects.

You're Melbourne based G-relk? I'd happily throw in my SM army for a refresher game too. Been yonks since I've actually played.

G-relk - awesome conversions! Is that a twin-linked assault cannon??? If you need bitz, try www.the-war-lord.com.

Hector - why don't you see if you can get together with NightOwl and some other Vickies? Maybe go to a GW and have them run you through a quicky with the Battle for Macragge set? Then you can take it from there, find out if they have games nights or associated clubs.

it is a twin linked assualt cannon, but it doesnt count as one (i used the assualt cannons from the ravenwing land speeder/vehicle sprue plus a few other things).

you actually reccomended the-war-lord.com in another thread, and i have already bought stuff from there, and am very pleased with the level of service they offer.

</plug>

the iron father in that thread is getting close to being finished too, ive just gotta finish painting him!

the dread with the shield has about 20hrs or so of conversion and painting work done to it (mostly conversion work tho, im a fairly fast painter)

EDIT: other thing i remembered, the GW stores do a warhammer night every week, just check out the WD mag or go in to get the guff on it.

See...I would go to the Chadstone GW store (only 5 mins drive from me)...but it's full of smelly, loud, obnoxious teenage boys that turn me completely off.

If I do bring myself go in to buy gear, it's at 9am when kids are at school, just to avoid the little bastards.

Hecttor - they should have a night for the more senior players, usually Thursday. Learn to ignore eau d'teenager!

G-relk - let me know what you'd like for modelling, Bunnings and nearby arts stores have most things, like foamcore, plasticard and misc. materials. An electronic/electrical store should have tubing that will fit your dreads.
Glad you've had good service from twl - now I can order some stuff!

Mr. H. - If only the rest of the IG could shoot as well as the Commissars!

you are, in all forms of the word: "legendary"

the closest place to get plasticard is in canberra at the large hobby stored they have. ive tried everywhere here to no avail (except bunnings, i mite have a sticky there on the weekend). i did actually get some guitar strings heaps cheap off e-bay if that helps anyone. foamcore i can get from the local framing and art supplies shop (i thought it was odd when he didnt stick plasticard), as well as mmost other things ive needed.

ill see what i can find off the net, if i cant find anythign tho i might PM you with a list of stuff (prolly just plasticard and plastic tubing for building bionic legs/arms), and take you up on that offer!

EDIT: nice commisar Mr: H. that one is my favorite of all the models, hes got such a cool pose. is it going to be cadians, or somethign a bit more spesh (ie vostroyans etc)????

G-relk: Yeah, it's a great pose, and the swagger stick he's holding behind his back is cool touch.

I'll be using the Cadian plastics for my boys, but coming up with a different paint scheme that'll more or less match the uniform of the Commissar. I'm also thinking of getting some heads from Westwind Productions ( http://tinyurl.com/6z4ywj) so I can change up the more boring plastic ones.

Mr. H: those heads are awesome. paint scheme sounds good too. are they CoD style bases???? i once painted the wounded soldier from the command squad box for a friend in desert colors (teracota, bubonic brown, tanned flesh) and it came out quite well. next army for me tho will be fantasy ogres, i normally dont paint flesh well so its gonna be something new to me, but with the right amount of drybrushing and ink anything can look good!

wow, that post is all over the place :(

I'm going for, more or less, WW2 german army colours for the Cadians. It's a good scheme, and since there's a crap-tonne of eagle imagery already on the figures it seems a good match. Plus, as yeah, I am going with urban style bases, it seems to work nicely in such a setting.

sounds awesome, the paint job will go well with the bases too. just make sure they dont get too lost in them, coz my dreads feet get a little lost in there bases too (im doing urban also, but i painted my dreads bases to look like destroyed roads).

also, you must paint a pencil moustache on you leader!!! :P

G-relk - the only place I've found plasticard/styrene is at hobbyist stores. Bunnings have neither foamcore nor styrene, but they do have wonderful things like metric 08 metal washers, great for weighting/stabilising bases at 20c each, as well as wire mesh, fine chain, glass paints, tiles etc.
Ogres, eh? Leadbelchers, Ironguts and Bruisers are my favourite models in that range, althought the Maneaters have a certain style too. But nothing to match the glory that is Bretonnia!

Dave - Note: Figures come unpainted and contain lead

Ummm. There's a good reason why Citadel/GW invested in "white metal" - there's no established minimum safe exposure level for lead. No licking!

Has anyone ever heard about people using heat or soldering the metal models? I tested some thick flash and it melts fairly readily. Just getting tired of pinning, and I think super glue sets more slowly in cooler weather. Certainly feels that way.

Picked up a fantasy Chaos Ogre on Saturday, thinking of converting it into a warboss...

went onto WargamerAU and have pretty much organised to buy some 40k and fantasy chaos models - I think this is going to be the year of nurgle (always wanted to do a nurgle army, I'm a sucker for slime :P)

i dunno howd youd go soldering a model together, but i think it woud be way easier if you go to bunnings and buy a tube of contact adhesive. it would prolly mely plastic models, but it would be great for metal ones, and the bond it makes is as strong as super glue, but not as brittle.

if you start nurgle chaos marines, check out the work in progress part of bolterandchainsword.com, there are a few being done at the moment that look amazing.

G-relk - yeah, that's what I thought. I've actually tried using green stuff in the past, but the bond isn't strong enough.

Green stuff - I heard there's a company that sells it in 36" lengths - anyone???
