EOI: Atomic 40K Day - where and when?

m4rx>> - Howdy! You're more than welcome to come along, as are all interested folk. Depending how things work out with location and participants, vehicle sharing should be a viable (and Green) option. Also gives you time to chat before arriving at the venue.

Sir S. - Get into your local GW tomorrow for the auction - there's bound to be something there that you can grab. Then maybe check ebay for bargains (search for 40k or the army you prefer). Look forward to meeting you at the first Atomic 40K Nationals!

yeah I'd love to come along - as long as it's not too far I have a car too so I could give someone a lift ;)
Do models have to be painted? I have a few tau that aren't painted lols

Oh and I would looove to get into some mordheim with various interested parties, I still have the old rulebook lying around and it's the greatest fun to play

m4rx>> - Thanks for the transport offer. We may wind up going to Canberra for the first one, as the Canberra Atomic crew are ALWAYS travelling to Sydney for events, and it's probably time we reciprocated.
Models should be ok unpainted, we all have works in progress!

Modheim! I'm just about to assemble the Blood on the Streets buildings. If I can find my Skaven, you'll have at least one game on your hands!

oh mad - if you do I will look at putting together a warband and if we get two more perhaps I will try and write up a nice pretty campaign. What time frame are we looking at for this? I don't know if I could do Canberra but depending on things I might...

m4rx>> - As far as time frame is concerned, depends on how things go here. Pretty obviously a weekend deal.

Any of the ACT guys got an idea about a venue? Somewhere with enough room for a couple of 6'*4' tables, maybe some painting space? Anything we could get free would be great - anyone got a contact at the uni?

Also - Terrain. I just picked up the ruined temple, plus I have the Macragge shuttle pieces, and some miscellaneous battlefield dressing. What else do we have available?? What else do we think might be a suitable Atomic terrain challenge?

EDIT: Speaking of terrain, I was browsing for some and found this:
http://www.thegamersguild.co.uk/presentation/model-buildings.asp

A quick check at XE.com for currency conversion puts 1 GBP = 2.12733 AUD...

Some of the barricades are 75p!!!

I'm not sure if any of you are members of wargamerAU but in their buy and sell forums are two fully modular 6'x4' tables going for $200 a table which is fairly amazing...

woot, count me in, i have a 2 (nearly) finished army's i can bring. id have to rewrite the list for one of them tho (i only just got the latest chaos codex). one is 2000pts of relictors space marines, and the other is a fallen angels army, but i think it might not be legal any more, ill have to have a look. i also have the start of an iron hands army that i can bring (that is so highly converted you'll wet yourself). depending on when the meet is i may have enough models finished for a small army of them( <1000 pts).

im in batemans bay, depending on whether i catch the bus or get a lift up, i may be able to give people in the batmans bay/moruya region a lift there as well.

EDIT: i have 3 cities of death buildings, one other piece, and some of the older gothic ruins that i can bring as well.

EDIT2: if anyone wants to trade any chaos/space marine bits im for it too (especially anything bionic, or SM tank crew shoulder pads), ive also got the start of a necron army id like to offload. there are 12 warriors, 1 lord (i have a highly converted destroyer lord, but i wont let that go) 1 heavy destroyer, 3 wraiths (1 is converted), and a converted tomb spyder (i replaced the arms) all of wich are painted to a high standard. i also have another 10 unpainted partially based warriors up for sale too.

Terrain: I still have two boxes of Necromunda and one box of Outlands terrain (Handy, cause it doesnt take up much storage space, plus fills a table or two nicely) Plus I can whip up some stuff fairly quickly - What we looking at though?

NightOwl - Excellent! I know a lot of people who are primarily modellers and painters. Not everyone goes in for the battle side of the hobby, and many of the players are... adequate painters, like me!

Ur in Melbourne, iirc? Still, with Hung offering to share his paint-fu and Khirareq offering to explicate the mysteries of assemblage, I'm sure you could justify the trip! I know I'd love to see you there.

G-relk - OMG! You live further South than I do! Wouldn't worry too much about the "legality" of the armies, as long as they're not ridiculously beardy or full of cheese. It may turn out that the main event is an Apocalyptic battle. In that case, it's pretty much everyone piles in with whatever they have and we let God sort it out!

Khirareq - fiik! Let's panic about it when we've got this thing out of EOI territory!

Right. As soon as the Triffids is finished on ABC1, it's bedteims!

mykl_c: Er, no :P If we need terrain, I want a head start - Plus if I can get it knocked over before hand, Im free to help with other stuff

Also, if we can work out what we have in total, we can use it as a guide for the campaign and enviroments we'll be fighting over - Remove some of the work from the planning phase as well

EDIT:

Ergh - Bugger. Ill PM you my MSN - We can talk later on in depth about this

That's some nice long-range shootiness there, hector!

I'm liking this Atomic 40k day more and more. FYI, I'm pretty sure that I can swing some space at Daramalan College; a good mate of mine is a teacher there, and that's where a lot of Canberra buddies often arrange their big 40k days.

I also think this is probably worth not doing too fast, as with enough time ahead it will serve as a nie spur for a lot of folks to get stuff made/painted. With a regular thread to post new work, swap advice and tips and talk rules and lists, I think we're on to something fun :)

Daramalan sounds awesome, just a stone's throw from my house ^.^ Yeah I'll need a couple months to get some signature pieces ready. I'd be there for painting first, gaming second. =)

OK, shall we aim for after Meet 8.0 then - sometime in August perhaps? My Orks, 'nids and SM armies should be of reasonable size by then.

Dave - Shall we have a Community Events WIP thread for this then? Can I suggest that we NOT have a Daemon army? While the new models are very nice, from what I've seen of the codex, they've overpowered it more than usual. Of course, that could just be my 'nid-like sensitivity to shootiness.
Oh, did you get the Collector's edition of the BB DVD?

Hector - Nice scouts! My Carnifex'll use those sniper rifles as toothpicks! My son has decided that his SMs'll be Black Templars - for ease of painting (by me, of course).

oh mykl c - you disappoint me my friend. I decided yesterday that I might get back into it and prepare a 40k army for this meet, and after seeing the daemon models decided to do a small army of them...
Also I figured they were so interchangable that I could create a modular collection. Core of daemons... add Chaos SM and you have a 40k army... add Chaos warriors and you have a WHFantasy army... take a few models and I have a Carnival of Chaos Warband for Mordheim.

Also, by August the new 40k rules might be out, could be interesting.
I look forward to it

m4rx - Bring 'em on! I understand 5th Edition may re-introduce ramming! All of the fluff about 'fexes says that they overturn and cleave tanks quite dandily - may need to "extrapolate" some ram rules for my CC 'fex/es... CHARGE!

coool :) i'm melbourne based, but get to sydney a bit. i would make the trip to canberra if a meet was organised.

happy to sit in the corner with the painters, decorators and admiration society. the closest i've ever been to actively playing hard copy strategy games is dungeons and dragons.... and that was years ago !

*must build up collection... i am so going shopping when i get back home. excited :)

i told you i do lots of conversion work!

@ nightOwl: depending on what goes down, i can have a learner game with 2 of my armies if you'd like, and teach you the basics of playing.
