Quote by Khirareq But this place has the best community Ive seen - Thats why I waste my time here dribbling shit in the Green Room

But that's exactly why I get frustrated. The whole moto of atomic is "Maximum Power Computing". Yet the community here is seemingly limited to the Green Room.

Thats because we also have a very large number of non-IT savvy people - And its another reason I like here - There is a huge variety of people here from all walks of life - We got guys and girls, we got old people and young people, we have people with disabilities and mental disorders and retards and douchebags, but the IT community here isnt that elistist to shoo them all away - If fact, they are usually welcomed

As for there being bugger all "Maximum Power Computing", Im not sure what your expecting - I go through Building and Troubleshooting, Graphic Hardware, CPUs and Coolind and Overclocking on a regular basis, and see that threads are often updated in there and there is regular movement with some great stuff going on

Maybe you should try injecting some of your own "Maximum Power Computing"? If you have higher standards and expectations, why not spend some time adding some of that information into this community? You may find that there are other people with the same level of knowledge and experience that you are craving, just waiting for others to comne out of the woodwork as well

Im sorry - I know Im repeating myself, just with different wording - But you really do only get out what you put in - And sitting there saying that theres nothing there, but not contributing yourself, is a little one sided and greedy imo

I see what you're saying. And in fact -- I do plan to contribute to atomic more than what I have been. I used to be here a lot, but as mentioned, somewhere when the traffic stopped, so did I. I guess I followed suit.

I don't really have standards. Expectations, yeah, I guess I do. I know of several users here that have advanced knowledge of tech/computers etc. but even they seemed to have gone elsewhere.

I guess I'm just trying to figure out where it all went wrong.

I can appreciate where you're coming from. I've turned into a bit of a Green Room whore the past couple of weeks, for a reason I can't quite discern.

There's a lot of shit in there, but there's also some good discussion. It's a worthwhile area so you can talk to the people you see posting in other areas, on more technical levels. It's a bit like going and having a beer with one of your uni professors, you get to see a side of them you're not going to see in the tech forums, or at least, not see as often or as openly.

And for the non-techie types... I'm not really sure how a lot of them found their way into atomic, whether it was through a partner, a friend, or an incorrect turn somewhere along the way, I'm not really sure. They do contribute, though. These people are valuable parts of the community. They fill the cracks, act as stabilisers, and generaly give us a well-rounded community with lots of viewpoints and alternate perspectives.

So I think you need to keep that in mind, and understand that even if everyone talking in The Green Room were hardcore techie-types, that's the area of the forum where you're going to feel the love, feel the personalities clicking and clashing and get a feel for people. The real people. Beyond the clicking/clashing you're going to see in the other areas, the kind that often comes down to stubborn opinions/fanboyism, much like the old yob Ford Vs. Holden type debates.

I'm rambling.

I feel that a few of the more interesting people should still be here, while a few of the idiots shouldn't. It feels like idiocy is OK, but being funny (re: thetap, thedrake [and I really don't give a shit how many RTM's he apparently got, nor do I give a shit about him leaving his tags open]) in a slightly non-mainstream manner gets you banned. Or calling the good stuff from the shit stuff and telling it like it usually is gets you suspended/banned (re: twinair, brains).

There's a lot of people I know who don't browse or log on as often as they used to, purely because they've seen people they've come to know get banned, and idiots (and no, I'm not being an elitest wank and implying that non tech peeps are idiots) continue to multiply.

With respect to the actual forum itself? It's a piece of shit. The userbase is literally the only reason I browse it, because it's a userunfriendly piece of shit that looks like some retard in my web programming course coded for a 2nd year assignment.

I'm sure that the original package was decent for the time, but it looks like architectural faults haven't been fixed (which should have happened), they've been ignored and the signs of said faults covered over with patching.

For me, and a lot of people I know, the main attraction to these forums is the userbase, and it seems like the quality of even the userbase may be at decreasing =|
(that said, there's still a lot of cool peeps here who, whether I like them or not, add to the site's atmosphere)

It's peachy, really.

A few people are upset because their friends got banned, a few are upset because they don't feel some of the current clientele have large enough iWangs to suit their tastes, some people would rather just nuke the Green Room and be done with it, some think the Mods are turning the place into a police state and some think they're giving too many people free rein.

Me? I think we're doing as well as we usually do. I have yet to be convinced the place has gone downhill in any quality community-wise. That said, I don't frequent tech sections.

That's pretty much what I'm referring to. Other sections other than The Green Room.

You are welcome to your opinion. At the same time, every user you have just mentioned, had a VERY simple way of avoiding the banning. Some were given a LOT more leeway than other users, probably more leeway than we should have given them.
