Your current opinions/views of the Atomic Forums

I used to be a regular of the Atomic Forums. But lately, I've been visiting less and less due to the seemingly big downturn in traffic and member posts. I'm a little sad, because I used to really enjoy the forums here, but I can visit only once a fortnight and it sometimes feels like the same threads are still there from 2 weeks ago sitting stagnant. And new threads seem to be a thing of the past.

What's your opinion?

Which forums do you go into?

The green room is likely to cycle through three whole pages worth of threads a day, and building/troubleshooting manages one a day sometimes.

Yeah I do visit/read the Green Room somewhat. Mainly because it seems to be the only thread that DOES tick over and provide a slightly interesting read. Some others I visit, but never change are:

I think the whole place could do with a change or three, tbh.

First change I'd like to see is get rid of the Fuzz guy. He's just stinking up the place.

Or wait, is that Moz?

hmmmm, interesting question. My opinion is probably largely unchanged from last week, or last month, or... yeah. Some subforms have their quiet cycles, some are rowdier than others. If one subforum is quiet, then I have the choice to create threads and try and get things moving again, or take the opportunity to visit some of the other forums I don't get into a whole lot :-)

This is an option :-)

The forums are what we make of them, and you choose your own forum experience. I choose to have a good experience :-) There's plenty here to keep me busy, so I guess that's my answer :-)

Hey, next year for 3 power symmetry :-) Today would nearly be right, though, except 2008 is mucking things up: 03.09.08 < 03.09.09.
3pm, of course :-)

You stay away because of the lack of traffic? Isn't that a little counter-intuitive? Why not create some traffic?

My opinion/view is pretty simple.

I like the content and the people.
I find the implementation of the forum itself lacking in many areas, though. I'm one of the more vocal/annoying people pushing for improvements. September 10th would appear to be a potential launch date for V3, which is exciting, and hopefully some of my reqeusts, and those of others have been heard and included. Here's hoping.

It does seem like there are too many subforums since they sit stagnant. Security for example is dead.., it could just be part of Tech Talk. Mobile Phones and PDA'S could be combined into one forum.., and maybe Open Source OS could just be called Open Source?

Just ideas.

The separation and conjoining of various sub-forums was always a contentious issue. Last time I think it ended up being "we have to have some because of the mag".

eh.

I occasionally keep an eye on some of the tech subforums, but for the most part they're as boring as the non-tech subforums, and there's not much to say. Traffic or not.

For those who keep asking on my opinion:

Well if you must know why I don't create new posts to create traffic, it's because the place is like a mausoleum and sometimes when I go to create a new thread, I get put off because I just keep thinking "well, it's so quiet in here, no-one is going to respond." And responses do seem very limited here too. So in all, I usually post on other forums (which I won't mention the name(s) of) where I am always guaranteed to get a good discussion out of it. With more often than not, replies going into several pages worth.

So anyway, that's my opinion.

I don't have the answer to it. But atomic forums is definitely missing something. I dunno.

Catch 22 though really

By not posting, you do encourage others to not post as well, for the same reasons

I notice it in the modding section - May be silent for a week, but then one or two posts get made, and there is a influx of posts and activity for a little bit

Im currently getting my gear out of storage, and looking into doing some simple little tutes about tool usage and measuring and stuff - Im hoping that, even though this info is already known by most and slightly useless, it will generate conversation which will lead to more info coming out, and hopefully some information sharing starts happening - Even if I only do one thread a week it should bring some movement to the section

But then again too - I agree with you. When looking for specialist information, you really should track down a site which handles that stuff - Atomic is a good place to get generic information, but when looking for something specific, you may find that info lost in a flood of other posts - Example, I generally dont discuss my DragonBall Z, or Naruto stuff here, nor my Magic The Gathering stuff - I have other forums where I go for that info

But this place has the best community Ive seen - Thats why I waste my time here dribbling shit in the Green Room - I like the way these people shoot

But that's exactly why I get frustrated. The whole moto of atomic is "Maximum Power Computing". Yet the community here is seemingly limited to the Green Room.
