I like it, it will never happen, but I think it would be good.

But...

The author would have to give a good reason for doing so.

Too much disruption. If it's a good reason, a mod can do it. Otherwise, it's not a good reason.

There would be half a million locked threads lying around the place.

So no, tis a bad idea.

Nope.

Because lets just say thread X was locked by the author, the people who want to keep on discussing it would just start up thread Y.

All it does is double the amount of "unwanted" threads.

Authors can, just send off an RTM with a valid reason.

Ahh, sure.

Because then all the people who start threads, which fill up with people with the opposing view, will get locked by the thread starter, and spill over into another thread...

I like it the way it is.

Nope.

It'd end up making more work for the mods, rather than the logical less.

No. Because it's funny every time you shoot yourself in the foot with the threads you make.

Gotta go with this right here, and also Tinny's point was more then valid enough.

The sheer amount of locked threads in this place would be huge.

Hell no.

The initiator of a thread should NEVER have the power and control of said thread, to be able to end it at a whim.

I don't agree with that idea. In my view, when someone posts a thread, they do it to initiate a topic of discussion, but they don't own the thread. The thread belongs to the community, not the thread starter. That's why they're called thread starters, not thread owners.
