Geekier post counts for ranking system

I fail to see what you're getting at, Meeko.

96 = 64 + 32
192 = 128 + 64
384 = 256 + 128
768 = 512 + 256

I chose these numbers for two reasons:
1) They fit in nicely, maintaining a rough rank order and weren't to ofar off the original post-coutns required.
2) They were numbers that occur pretty commonly on computers. 96/192/384/768 are common bitrates. They've also been non-uncommon amounts of system memory in years past.

I think you're taking a geeky/silly idea and getting excessively anal about it. :)

post count should be in hex.

You should probably ask his permission first.

I do see what his on about, in true binary it's always 2^x, but yeah, I agree with you more in the sense that the system works nicely :-)

Ecky, ALL even numbers are the sum of two powers-of-two. You're just restricting it to numbers where the last 3 or 4 digits are zero.

There's something special about:

1000 100000 1000000

But numbers such as:

110000 110000000 110000000

are in that list but they are not special. They're just regular numbers.

Remember: All numbers can be written as sums of powers-of-two. So we should restrict it simply to powers-of-two.

I understand exactly what you're saying, but I still fail to see why this matters.

Sure, having rank promotion points that in their binary representations are 1 followed by increasing numbers of 0s is nice, but it isn't very practical for reasons already indicated.

And you appear to be the onl yperson who's converting the decimal numbers back to binary and then proceeding to get upset. :)

And nitpicking: All even numbers aren't the result of a sum of two powers-of-two. Multiple powers-of-two, sure, but not just two. And if you want to use multiple numbers, then you can have both odd and even, given that 2^0 = 1. :)

It's too big a sacrifice just to keep the old number of ranks. The geek factor plummets the moment we move away from exponents and all the way down to ADDING.

I propose a much simpler solution: We can keep 100% of the geek factor by removing one - JUST ONE - of the old ranks. Colossus would then only require 65k posts, which is similar to what it is right now, but a little higher. It's good to have it a little higher anyway, since people break 40k so easily.

We only have to lose one rank - we can get rid of Learner or Charge. Then we keep the 100% geek factor with no addition, and reasonable post count requirements.

I still think that Ultraspammer is appropriate :)

Needs something snazzier, an ideal for Atomicans to aim for. What's better than a Colossus?

/thinks.

I magnanimously donate the my username to the rank requiring the highest post count. :-)

We could wait until someone has reached the necessary post count for the > Colossus ranking and give them naming rights (albeit with veto powers held by the bossman) so that they have a legacy. Could be interesting if that person has a self-deprecating sense of humour.

Colossus -> Douche
Colossus -> Rectum-Faced Pygmy
Colossus -> ...

Actually, I just had another thought.

Who is the God of everything, especially amongst geeks?

Chucky!

Colossus -> Chuck Norris

Works for me.
