Mods having the last word.

I don’t mind threads been locked, 9/10 they probably deserve it. And I do think the thread I’m on about had run its course.

And I don’t really mind a parting jab like “pull your head in”

But when a Mod locks a thread leaving a parting comment that is relevant to the post and, leaving it in their favour to their stance in the thread, even leaving more info to their favour.

Pips me off a little, I just see it as an abuse of power to have the last word.

Puts on thick coat and heads for bunker.

Being a number is ok, as long as you’re in the top ten.

Say what?
I think I know what you are saying, but can you clarify?

He's talking about Directors thread I'd wager, and in part I kind of agree with him. But the thread had pretty much run it's course, I saw what Tom and Tantryl were saying and actually agreed [sorry I didn't get to clarify Tom!].

Beats hoes needs to go beat a hoe to fix his pent up anger though.

When I was a mod and I locked a thread and someone got in with a post between me posting and me locking the thread, I usually went back in and deleted the post so that I had the last post in the thread.

I don't want to start a bitch session here with the mods, but I can see Tom's point. It's dangerous I know, but I'm fairly sure he means this thread:

I was trying to word it better, fail.

When the comment they leave is bias to their stance in the thread.

I see what you mean. The moderating actions should be neutral.

well there have to be SOME perks don't there? :P

I see what you mean, though I think this is unusual. I have to say when I lock a thread I will often make a comment that is nothing more than a passing shot at those who caused the thread to be locked. Not really necessary.

In the thread in question, i look at the closing remark as a clarification, not making any value judgment either way, but I didn't follow the whole thread.

I put that remark in there before locking purely to provide a little bit of reality to the rampant speculation that had been going on. I consider my comment there as neutral as I could possibly have been -- the comment was not based on opinion from either side, but from the facts that I had been presented. I know it's awfully inconvenient when the facts conflict with your own opinion, but had I been told the opposite I still would have locked the thread with the facts as they had been presented to me.

It just seems a bit off. If all that had to be said had been said, it would have died of. If it was getting out of hand, that could have been said.

I think ending a locked thread with an opinion and more information that can not be responded to, can be aggravating.

Yes. Or, I could have locked a thread that had gone well off its intended path where arguments were running around in circles. Which I did. And no, threads don't "die off" when people have nothing new to add, even a cursory glance through the archives will tell you that much.

If I wanted to somehow "win" that thread I would have done much better for myself by presenting the information I did and leaving the thread open. I didn't see that as particularly necessary. Opinions had been presented, in some cases based on certain assumptions in some cases not, and in my opinion the thread needed to be locked. I could have done that a) while providing facts relevant to the thread, or b) without providing those facts. I chose the latter. My apologies if the intrusion of reality has offended those whose opinion runs counter to it -- I'll be sure to allow rampant speculation to run wild and unchecked next time, locking the thread only after it has descended into shit-slinging and repetition and refusing to shed any light whatsoever on the facts of the situation as they have been provided to me.

I wanted to respond to those facts, though.

(Note: I'm not too hung up on the fact it was locked, I'll get over it :P)

Mods should indeed remain neutral. My apologies if I ever locked a thread and argued my point on that last post (I don't think I have, but I can't remember all the things I've done).

Also +1 to what Fuzz is saying, always +1 to that guy.

I see it as ending it with information, but no opinion.

But that's my opinion :)

Does this issue mean there is no accountability in the moderation of the forums, apart from relying on faith? Mods could actually delete posts, and you would have to go to EA to see who did what?

Our legal system keeps the executive separate from the judiciary.

It's kind of a big thing.
