"Well, if it were one of the threads I bump to add info, I'd probably RTM that kind of post as "OT, delete please"..." is what I was going to post, until I realised what thread you were talking about.

All I can say is, it wasn't me : p

I'd assume that you don't really care why the thread was bumped, seeing as you never PM'd me, but, I bumped it because I think that a thread filled with information on one topic is more useful than multiple threads. I didn't think "oh hey, Lily Allen is meant to have a new album out whenever her record company gets of their arse" was novel enough to have its own thread.

Also, why get all upset about one post being deleted, when it contributed nothing to the thread? If you think that general housekeeping (even if you weren't PM'd about the deletion) is somehow indicative of a police-state that has lost all sense of fun, I think you've lost perspective of some things.

Because if a post was deleted, it is disturbing that selective criteria was used to differentiate it. How would an OT post(and I don't know how OT) be different from the myriad of rankspam?

You're assuming that, if I were a mod, I would not delete pointless rankspam from cluttering up threads. You're assuming that, at the least, I don't/haven't RTM'd such.

Until such time as they give mods the ability to fork threads, what do people expect?

Ok, ok. I log into my old admin account and delete things every now and then, just to keep things interesting. It's about time someone noticed.

Slightly OT:

Why do pure spam threads simply get locked, while posts that can be contributing to a discussion, even if in a perceived negative way will be individually censored removed?

It's very rare for us to delete an individual post.

I've probably only done it two or three times in the entire time I've been modding.

Simple.

a spam thread contains mainly spam and there is no point to the thread so it gets locked. Off topic posts, for example personal attacks, will be individually removed so it doesn't disadvantage those who have made a contribution to a worthwhile thread.

People who combine a personal attack with something worthwhile in the same post will soon realise that doing so is a waste of time as it's likely their personal attack will be removed.

If they can't learn to post by the rules then this may be a problem for them.

Since the mods can never protect us from all the individual posts that are considered a personal attack, why only focus on some? To remove an individual post which is not a personal attack, but lets say...petty bickering, which still contained technical arguments, is simply an abuse of power, and censorship, because the mods thought the users could not resolve something themselves or handle a debate in a thread.

Seriously, would not warnings simply work, instead of feeling it necessary to shape history to how you want it perceived?

Warnings work on some, not on others, that's when we have no option other than bannings.

We moderate the forums because we care about the place. No other reason. We occasionally get someone like you that looks for any and every reason to try to stick it the those that moderate the forums. You're nothing new.

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer.
