give the mods the power to modify thread titles.

Oh God, please no!

The workload for little shit like spelling and removing swearing requests would go through the roof. Maybe people could review what they type before they hit "Post Message".

:)

I don't think it's a huge problem, though I think it might be handy if you could modify your own thread titles for say 5 minutes after you post a thread.

Allows you to remove any typos.

I didn't see anything wrong with the original thread.

thread no.
title yes.

That either.

Are people too lazy to look?

Why would they look if it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the subject matter? Would you pick up "particle physics for dummies" just in case it had something to do with gardening and just had a bad title? No.

Also merge the locked thread into the original. So all the posts are viewed.

The thread title referred to by Athril is a great example. If you understand the context, it makes perfect sense. However, having NOT clicked the thread and knowing what it's about, it could just as easily be a 'latest Robzy joke gone wrong'.

For news articles I'd prefer the 'useless' title to be locked and the second thread live.

Just my 2c. Can guarantee I'd never click "What's good for the goose"

I understand your reluctance. I think users should be able to edit their own thred titles. I think this should be implemented. Adding functionality for mods to edit the thread title would be trivial at the same time.
if (isMyThread() || isModerator()) {
// output HTML "Edit Thread title link"
...
}

I think it's something that'd be good for mods to be able to do, but only if users can do it for their own threads. Especially so that mods won't get lots of annoying requests.

I currently have a major gripe with the only allowed Community Events thread for Atomic Live 2008.

It has no genuine information in it until page 5.

Relevance of OP? None. What is more OP poster has been banned.

I don't care about second threads getting locked - I just want the remaining thread to have good information.

I don't know *why* this is annoying me so much but it is.

my irritation still stood though because the mods decreed that it was the *only* official thread in community events.

you just happened to be the poor smuck who posted 2nd.

you had the power to fix the derth of information - and you did. :) thanks for that.
