Locking news threads when a second one gets posted
Athiril

Have seen this time and time again...

Pay attention people

"(US) Georgia at war with South Ossetia Sepratists (Russia), 1400 dead after 24 hours."
^---- good thread title, aptly named.

locked in favour of
"What's good for the goose"
^---- poor thread title, you want know what you get until you open it.. kinda like schroedinger's cat.. or a box of chocolates.

Now if people are gonna post popular or controversial news stories or discuss them etc.

I think it is not too much to ask to NAME YOUR DAMN THREAD TITLE PROPERLY.

So that people will know if it's been posted or not already and not post a new one, as many people dont open a lot of threads on here (like me).

Is it too much to ask? As it is too much to ask to have every atomican open and read every single thread in the green room.

Actually he has a very good point.

I almost posted this news today as I couldn't believe no one had posted about it yet.

I have never been into the thread titled Whats good for the Goose.

So I completely agree with Athiril on this one.

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer.

Or people could learn to forum search.

agree or disagree shouldn't matter. The forum rules is duplicate threads should be locked. Doesn't matter how better presented the second thread is.

Just because you feel what you say is correct, doesn't mean you yourself have the right to break policy to get your point across...

Everyone breaks the rules, everyone fails to provide a great thread title every now andd then...we are all human :D

We should make poor thread titles on news topics a bannable offense.

Im not saying the first thread should be locked instead... well if its such a vague thread title, perhaps it should be locked (and/or deleted) and tell them to try again with a proper title..

I'm saying effing name the thread properly in the first place.

It's like filing your dockets for your tax return under H for 'heat transfer paper' or something :P

It's when you have a sence of something being off.

bad thing number 8.

8. Using non-descript thread titles. "I have a question" will attract a poor response, plus makes the forums look boring. "Is it time for a black gay Pope?" will likely get some good attention, and shows the forums to be lively and original.

1. Considering the context of the OP in the thread, I don't see the problem with the thread title.
2. Even using a non-descript thread title doesn't mean that one will be contacted by the mods. It's something that's frowned upon, not something that's against the rules.

I agree with athril, duplicate, well named threads on a topic get locked in favor of some dopey named thread on the same topic.

and you should know that the forum search isnt the best judge 1shot, searching thread titles should be enough for an important news item.
