Problems with Kitlog

It doesn't list input peripherals, disk drives, storage HDDs, OS, etc. Why not?

Well for one thing there's only so much space.

There are recommendations for HDDs there, so just get two, one as a OS disk, one as a storage *shrugs*

As for optical drives, you'd have to be trying really hard to make a bad choice, as they are all pretty much the same. Pioneer is where it's at if you want the best, it's possible to review them, except they aren't very interesting reading, as you'd imagine.

Input peripherals (mice, keyboards etc) are very personal items, and there is no one universally pleasing device that suits everyone, hence why it was probably left out. That said, Issue 91 has a few mice in it, and the past couple have had them too.

As for an OS, what do you think? XP or Vista, it's subjective to the person, and whether or not they want/need features like DX10.

I think that the whole idea of Kitlog is rather subjective.

Those items, in particular, though are on the greater end on the scale of subjectivity.

Rob.

My PSU blew up today :( thought "Ah well, lets see what Atomic suggests"

I notice that there is a big "eyo" logo on kitlog.

To me that suggests that eyo supplies everything in Kitlog. So I went to the eyo website and tried to mix and match what I saw in Kitlog to make a new build, only to find some items missing.

No big deal, but perhaps that should be made clear?

I think it's good, as it demonstrates that the sponsor's stock isn't influencing the editorial recommendations.

On another point:

I used to find Kitlog really useful. (I have it open on my desk right now, incidentally.) But these days I find it less useful.

The reason is that there needs to be another category between performance and Extreme. Extreme lists things that are so high level, none of us are ever going to spend that kind of money building a machine to that spec. Performance, on the other hand, is a little 'middle of the road', IMHO.

I also strongly believe it should be expanded to list the best of breed peripherals and components, even though that will take another double page spread.

I agree with that. Though maybe cut out the one sentence descriptions for the chosen the product (not like they're very helpful) but leave the issue/page reference obviously so we can go and read the full review. That should give you enough room for another row, might have to shrink the pics a tad though.

Rename Performance to Bang4Buck and the new category keeps the Performance name.
