maybe jennyb would like to explain, in a civilised manner, her long term personal experiences with apple products that lead her to such an expert opinion on the subject? i know of mac work horses that will happily perform under the stress described. 'mac is shit' just doesn't do it for me in a technical sense. i'm very aware of apple's short comings as well, but nothing that deserves the blanket abuse it's been getting from jennyb :) Edited by NightOwl: 2/7/2008 1:07:59 PM ----- Every once in a while, declare peace. I've met insecure people before, terribly lacking in self esteem with nothing to offer the world, but when you start a thread with: "and the people that I know will come in here and comment about how bad macs are or macs are for idiots only highlight how much of a fat fuckwit you are " you need to do more than watch one rocky dvd, you need the box set. One other dismal fact about macs is the shear unavailabilty of real world high end software. Software like Catia, Ideas, Unigraphics etc which are used to design aerospace,(stealth bomber, NASA spacecraft), aviation and automobile products (Ford, GM global etc) is simply unavailable for the mac platform. If the high end with near limitless budgets can't see the value in switching platforms why would Joe Normal? More than 99% of mid range manufacturing software is unavailable for mac, yep you got it right, those in the know and with the bling don't want a mac. Maybe the mac zealots think that having a basic text editor like notepad stay on thier screens for 30 minutes without crashing is real computing power....bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah For god sakes wake up!!! The world will be just fine and even better off without mac's, why diminish the position of the magazine and alienate PC lovers by doing a sympathy article especially when so many people have expressed they would never actually buy one. Nigh owl: I'm far too intelligent to have long term experience with macs, the stupid things don't run high end software, making them an instant flop. The whingers: No need to spill your emotional guts regurjitating the same old same old pointless point of view. Once again, read it and weep: --> So if anyone has any non biased dollar for dollar reviews regarding PC/Mac put up the link and lets disect it. In my opinion and in the minds of millions of others, macs are for tards. <-- -----

hang on a second. You are saying So if anyone has any non biased dollar for dollar reviews regarding PC/Mac put up the link and lets disect it. In my opinion and in the minds of millions of others, macs are for tards. <-- BUT THEN YOU SAY I'm far too intelligent to have long term experience with macs No one takes dickheads seriously. You are being biased. As I have mentioned that own about 4 to 6 Windows based machines and 1 mac. The fact that you claim macs are poor.. but at the same time have not used one for more than 5 mins makes you look like an idiot. To add to it You went and made ANOTHER THREAD begging for no mac crap highlighting your stupidity. I suggest you listen to some wise people here. you have come in half cocked ( lol I said cock) And said this and that supplied links about a few laptops and what not but really at the end of the day your arguments are just stupid arrogant complaining. I have not said once I am a mac zelot. Only a owner in a windows based environment. But however you keep saying that there is mac zelots here. The only people that have posted here are people saying it would be interesting. Does that make them mac Zelots. You have had a thread locked by a mod. A few mods have questioned your state of mind but yet, You still think you are right and that everyone is stupid for using a mac. and having comments like "Maybe the mac zealots think that having a basic text editor like notepad stay on thier screens for 30 minutes without crashing is real computing power....bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah " make you look like a child which makes your oppinion really skipped over. as said before. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha......I guess I see the problem more clearly now. Frunj are you really suggesting photoshop is high end software? bwahahahahahahahahaha....oh man As for maya, you might want to go back and read some history. Maya was the brain child of two companys called alias research and wavefront technologies. Therefore in the union they established Aliaswavefront. The ONLY reason maya was ported to the dumbass mac platform was because of revenue. At the time the only 3D platform available for mac was lightwave, pathetic as it is and AW saw a golden oppurtunity to make some cash. No one was using macs for any industry 3D work and when asked why AW even bothered to port maya over, an AW exexcutive replied words to the affect of: "sometimes small minds with big wallets have to help big minds with limited cash reserves" ....something like that, it made headlines at the time. Everyone in the 3D world knew the truth, alias research needed easy money to keep developing and if getting that from talentless tards was going to be easy, they were going to do it. And they did it, they dwarfed every other 3D platform and Autodesk being unable to compete with its 3ds max software bought them out for a stagering amount of money. No way on earth was maya ported over to mac for technical reasons. This happened in about 2000-2001 and even still no industry big name used maya on macs, they still went about investing heavily in maya on the PC platform. You see industry doesn't care about the tard factor. So that's the maya story, what else have you got? Oh is that it? Bwahahahahahahahahaahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaahhahahahahahaha Besides all that, maya is 3D imagery, you don't make real world cars and aeroplanes with it, you can't. It holds a place in DCC but that's about it. As for your ridiculous link have you even read it yourself? It says: "But during my research I came to a stunning conclusion: it’s the cheapest name brand dual-processor workstation on the market IF you know how to buy third party memory and storage" then goes onto to say: "Now once you buy this system, you’re going to need to buy some fully buffered DDR2-800 memory which is still very hard to find at this time. I found some for $245 (vendor claims Mac Pro tested) which is way more money expensive than other generic memory but it’s way better than the $1500 Apple is asking for" so frunj, why is apple charging $1255 more for DDR2-800? So basically if I buy an apple from apple I'm NOT getting a cheaper machine. Don't forget you have to get and install your own hardrives: "The hard drives can be replaced with any 3.5″ SATA hard drive and you can usually buy two 500 GB Seagate hard drives for $240 and put them in a RAID-1 configuration" So even after all that we read the author compares it to a PC workstation: " It’s still possible to get a great PC 2.33 GHz dual-processor workstation for less than $2400..." So even after getting and installing my own RAM and Hardrives I still have to pay $1400 for an extra 0.5Ghz for something that is only partly from apple. This is exactly what I'm on about frunj, if people want anything from apple they have to be willing to be financially raped, to have very limited software choice and wait forever for patches, service packs etc. Didn't you yourself frunj say you'd give a mac away even if you got it for free? So if you don't really want one stinking up your desk why even dare promote the idea to influencial newbies, they need real advice, not people dabbling with a curiosity they'd never spend there own hard earned on. No wonder this sad ass debate is continuing, most whingers here wouldn't even know what catia or UG or anything high end is. Frunj at least you tried to make and arguement, pathetic as it was. What about the rest of you??? Oh and don't bother quoting outdated prices, I will be refering to current prices. Funky monkey doesn't your own pointless waffling do your head in? Post up some proof ffs. Until then I still say: --> So if anyone has any non biased dollar for dollar reviews regarding PC/Mac put up the link and lets disect it. Quote by jennyb --> So if anyone has any non biased dollar for dollar reviews regarding PC/Mac put up the link and lets disect it. In my opinion and in the minds of millions of others, macs are for tards. <-- Dunno why I'm bothering, but here you go: "In both the laptop and desktop showdowns, Apple’s computers were the winners. Oddly, the big difference didn’t come in our user ratings, where we expected the famously friendly Mac interface to shine. Our respondents liked the look and feel of both operating systems but had a slight preference toward OS X. In our speed trials, however, Leopard OS trounced Vista in all-important tasks such as boot-up, shutdown and program-launch times. We even tested Vista on the Macs using Apple’s platform-switching Boot Camp software—and found that both Apple computers ran Vista faster than our PCs did." From: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/reviews/4258725.html There's also this article: http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/109443,pc-vs-apple-the-value-battle.aspx But you'll probably ignore that as well and find some obscure reason as to why Windows is superior in every single way. And just for the record, I'm impartial. PCs and Macs both have their strengths depending on application. Edited by Virul: 2/7/2008 10:36:07 PM -----

"This. Is. Just. About. Expanding. Ones. Knowledge. Plain and simple. " Why does it have to take space in a magazine I buy glitch? What will it take the space of? A good monitor review? An article relevant to the bulk of Atomic's audience? Why don't you persue these curiositys at your own leasure rather than making the bulk of us pay for it? This is only one part of the website, I'm betting people who frequent cpu's and cooling, overclocking and building and trouble shooting won't want it either. Nightowl.....no speako english or what? Read: Nigh owl: I'm far too intelligent to have long term experience with macs, the stupid things don't run high end software, making them an instant flop. Why on earth would I buy a machine that can't run the packages I need to use most? What's so difficult to grasp there exactly? Well lets deal with your first fraudulent link: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/reviews/4258725.html?page=2 Have a look at the stupid gateway thing they are compairing it to. I've never even seen that thing before and certainly don't know anyone who'd buy it. If you want to make stupid comparison think of any 22" monitor and compare it to this $1200 dell unit: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&a So in reality (if you put aside your self deception for a moment) how many people will buy that dell 22" instead of another 22"?? Maybe 0.001%? Who would they be? The insecure, the incompetent, the deluded? So if we want to make a fraudulent comparison we can simply keep hunting for an overpriced underperforming designer product to make our arguement seem good, when in reality people can see what's going on. If you want to compare that mac desktop to a mainstrem unit check this unit out, it whoops the mac to kingdom come and back again. Four cores, not two, 2 gigs of RAM not 1 and pretty much better everything else, take away the speakers and the costs are dead on: http://www.centrecom.com.au/systemparts.pdf Your other link compares a $2600 imac to a sony, how many people here at atomic are stupid enough to go buy a sony? Oh and for $2600 this is what you get: iMac 24" $2599 24" LCD 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1GB memory 320GB hard drive 8x double-layer SuperDrive ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory People who aren't retards will go and get a quad core with a higher spec sli setup rather than bend over because apple wants them to. You people really take the cake, I mean why put up these links in a tech savvy forum, macs always have been and still are a rip off unit. Besides that, there not a quality unit, despite the lies professed in this thread, they are in fact "shit". The human mind is a bizarre thing, the most complex organ on earth and it isn't surprising that it doesn't develop properly for all of us. It's sad to see people lacking in even a smidgeon of self honesty, willing to tell themselves anything to justify a purchase or putting up contradicting links in a fraudulent attempt to sway opinion. I guess people who join cults believe thier doing the right thing too, and are willing to betray themselves and those around them to the point where they'll drink cyanide and even give it to there children. So I emplore those of you in the cult to damage yourselves if you must, but please don't offer to the children of Atomic. "Catia, Ideas, Unigraphics" Catia was developed for UNIX, and had UNIX builds for PPC since before it has Windows versions. To me, that implies that UNIX rather than windows is better for high-end computing. Windows support is just a concession to the fact that most businesses buy the cheapest, nastiest $300 beige boxes they can. I-DEAS and Unigraphics no longer exist. Unigraphics was bought out and rolled into NX following 1991, and I-DEAS was also bought out, and everybody pushed into NX-IDEAS, so they could convert their skill base to UGS NX Products. Oh look, and NX has been Apple native since 2006. Not only does it work, but the interface follows the Apple standards: http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/about_us/newsroom/press/press_release.cfm?Component=2 Seems your knowledge is a little out of date. Not that it's an issue, what with industrial design being such a big part of the IT landscape. Face it, consumers are buying more macs, and loving them, and big companies are both supporting and buying more macintosh hardware. The number of fortune 500 companies using macs is growing rapidly, and they are giving fantastic feedback. But I guess they wouldn't know, would they? Someone with out of date knowledge in what they think companies use, who probably hasn't touched an os x machine EVER, knows far better than the IT professionals, pundits and researchers. tinbane; interesting that you mention that. just received an email from a friend who works for nasa. last night i asked him about his opinion on mac systems. he said that nasa uses both mac and pc, but is swaying toward mac. the reason being that nasa are heavy users of unix tools for 3d rendering and they needed a system that would handle this plus tools that don't run on unix. apparently, the mac os x can do this, but windows or unix alone can't :) Edited by NightOwl: 3/7/2008 4:44:33 PM ----- Every once in a while, declare peace.
