I think atomic.edu need to do an article on online learning.

I've been doing a degree online for about 2 years through http://www.open.edu.au/

It was an absolute god send when I found it. To do my degree whilst still being able to support my family was just what I needed.

Anyways, I think there's alot to be said about the advantages/disadvantages and providers and what not. It'd make an interesting article. I'd be happy to help out with my experiences.

That's not a bad idea at all. If he's not already seen this, I'll suggest it to sap.

Quite a lot of, if not most of the big universities offer enrollment in external mode. This means exams can be taken wherever you are, study guides sent out, assignments submitted online etc. It was useful when I was traveling last year and able to complete a masters at monash, and have never been to the campus. It really doesn't matter if they are part of Open Universities or not.

Plus one.

I like the idea. I'd like to see a brief overview of what exists out there...and moreover, the relative "quality" of the product.

Well speaking of online learning, I was rather curious about some of the courses on offer at

http://www.aie.edu.au/courses/index_online.php

seeing as I was interested in pursuing games development and this would give actual, demonstrable skills.

Of course, no idea how good such courses are, but they are a tad expensive . . .

I am moving to germany in two weeks, and have always wanted to study archaeology.

As such, I can enroll at Macquarie University, get a FEE-HELP(HECS) loan, and have everything mailed to me in germany. Apart from having to go through the UAC, it all seems peachy. In fact, since external mode at most universities will support you out of the country, it seems a step up from open universities.

I'd be happy to input some experiences to that. Did my Masters (Systems Development) via distance / online through Charles Sturt.
