No reply from subs...

I've sent an email to subs to re-subscribe but haven't had contact. I've resent the email to subs@atomicmpc.com.au. Here's an excerpt:

---------------------------

Hi subscriptions....

I haven't yet had a response regarding this. Since sending this email I've received a notice saying that my subscription has expired.

Could someone please contact me as soon as possible to organize re-subscription. The last issue I've received is No. 89.

As an incentive for you to call me back asap - if I get a call back by COB Thursday 29/05/2008 I will pay for a 2 year subscription instead of 1 year.

-------------------------

Let's see what happens :)

Maybe you should have sent it to pvella@haymarketmedia.com.au instead?

All good - I first sent it to subscriptions@atomicmpc.com.au and now to subs@atomicmpc.com.au.

If they want to make a 2 year sub out of me they know what they have to do.

If they call me on Friday then I'll still be happy to become a 2 year sub but they'll have to fund the second year. :)

Incoming random story of the night...

I was in the labs today (yeah, funny that, huh?), and our I.T. Tech Support chap comes in - lovely lad. Instead of talking about our new PS3s we've both bought in recent months and TVs and such to go with them, we shared our morning PC-war stories.

Mine so happened to revolve around much hate flying in the general direction of two AMD platform motherboards (one a 790FX, the other a 780a) and an X48 board I was having nightmares with too.

After agreeing that computers can be utter twats to deal with, we started on our other victim - the office network.

It turns out that Lee (yeah, sorry, forgot to name him earlier but meh, I'm tired and stuff... yeah) had spent about 2.5-3 hours trouble shooting issues with emails and certain email relays. One such relay is the subs email relay.

As mentioned by David quite frequently in recent weeks, our subs are handled by another company that specialises on delivering subs and is external of Haymarket Media.

Now, you lovely people, our much adored readers, see the subs email as being apart of the Atomic/Haymarket domains. In actual fact (and similar to many corporate email situations), the actual recipient of the mail is an external individual. This means mail needs to come in and then be served outwards again.

Atomic being what it is - often over the top - appears to have influenced the spam filter a little too much. You see, this lovely little good/bad decider, or mail-god as I like to think of it, has been blocking the outward mail of the incoming message - no doubt thinking it is some sort of spam attempt.

So a long and completely uninteresting story later (hahah, you're not gonna see that past minute! Mwuhahaha), the lesson here is that spam filters that are more aligned with Hitler than God are not a good thing for people trying to contact the subs department.

I believe Lee said the issue was fixed today but it may be worth just dropping Phil a quick message (via the details already mentioned) and perhaps quickly explain your situation. Hopefully then you can sit back with the confidence that you've got 24 months of Atomic lovin' coming your way ^___^

Wow, so they had a filter filtering out all the legitimate sub questions?

Perhaps it's time to change delivery companies....

Thanks for clearing that up though, as I was wondering too.

Nice story Josh.
Seems this has been going on for quite a while though.
Sounds a bit like the Telstra spam filter stories from yesteryear!

Sigh.

I hate spam, and smtp filters and servers and shit in general. Specially when dealing with relays, and making sure that relays aren't seen as spammers.

Sadly, i actually enjoy troubleshooting them too. Basically all i've done at work this week :P

I can't believe I'm getting an update on our subs relay via the forums...

Oh wait. I can :)

Hopefully things will get a little better from now on.
